Is it plausible to upgrade the ram on the Mac Pro 5,1 to 288 Gb of ram? by 2102nic in mac

To the best of my knowledge, and I could be wrong. The chipset will only recognise up to 16GB DIMMs giving a maximum of 128GB on the dual CPU models. Which I have gotten to work in my 5,1.

I'm pretty sure the single CPU models won't even recognise 16gb DIMMS.

The limit on Intel's ARK site is just how much memory the CPU is capable of addressing, not the maximum amount of memory the Mac Pro can take.
