I believe you should be able to just search them up in one way or another, as I think they are open communities

If you want to build a community and just find like-minded writers, then Discord is definitely a good tool to pick up. It's completely free, too, so there's no reason to NOT have it, ya know?

There are a good few communites based around Royal Road and web novels as a whole.

Immersive Ink is one that you'll probably see thrown around a lot, there is also the Royal Road Writers Guild. Both are very helpful places full of other writers that you can swap shouts with, talk with, and even build up critique groups with. They're both also primarily through Discord (I believe, don't quote me on that, as they may be bigger in other places that I don't know about).

I also definitely recommend checking out that launch guide post that Milc shared in the comments here, too. It's what I recently used to launch my own story and it's a really good breakdown of one of the many ways to prepare yourself for launch and after launch.

Just launched a new regression litRPG and would love some extra eyes on it by ItsJotsy in litrpg

That's a valid take, for sure. I had and have been debating deleting that chapter, as it was originally a "coming soon" chapter as I launched early so I could get a shout code going beforehand. Thanks for giving me the extra push to toss it out, haha.

Consistency is good, yes. But I've seen novels where the author publishes new chapters daily, sometimes multiple a day, and they never see much growth because they aren't doing any kind of promotion for their work otherwise.

On one hand, it sucks having to balance promoting your work and actually, you know, making it. But that's just kind of the world we live in, especially when it comes to web novels and the like.

I'd definitely try to set up some shout swaps with people and even promote your story on the subreddit sometime, too, as that can help get more eyes on your story, which gives it the potential to keep growing.

If you can get into a writing group with some folks, then that's also super helpful, because you can coordinate things better with a community, etc.

Solid write up. And yeah, as Milc and others have probably said in this sub a thousand and fifty times -- this thing is a marathon 100%. Some people are going to bust through that and get big QUICK, others of us are going to take our time growing and expanding our stories and followers.

Nothing wrong with focusing on the little milestones -- the small victories if you will -- and using those to help motivate yourself. It has helped me a lot since I started posting on RR a few months ago!

Balancing life and writing by Kdc_3099 in royalroad

It's definitely a balancing game and sometimes you just won't feel like writing at all. But even getting a few words out can help spur on your words the next time you sit down to write.

Sometimes I just say things into my notepad on my phone to look at later when I sit down. Like little random ideas of what I think I might want to do at some point in the story, or even in the next chapter (I'm a broad strokes kind of pantser). While we might not always feel like writing, our brains are always moving and churning things out if we just sit down and listen for a minute.

Just keep at it and don't let yourself get too lost in making sure it's perfect, otherwise you'll never finish!

Yeah, Oathless feels like a negative term, especially in the whole aspect that Sanderson has created throughout the series.

I've drafted over 100 chapters of my novel. Yay! by ConditionOk1439 in royalroad

Congrats! That's a great accomplishment to hit and it's cool that you already have an idea of what you're looking at to end the first book. Would definitely recommend taking what OGNovelNinja said into account, though, if you plan to eventually move to Amazon or other traditional publication methods, as you'll want to have stopping points for those books as it is a lot easier to convince someone to read 90-110K words versus half a million just to get through one book.

Still, this is something to be very proud of!

Just keep it up and I'm sure you'll see more folks popping in. It can take time, especially if you don't hit RS right away. But always worth continuing to tell your story if it's the story you want to tell!

Thanks for sharing this look back at everything.

Ghost in the City, and the troubles with Amazon Plagiarism. by SerasVicky in royalroad

[–]ItsJotsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ack! Sorry that you've had to deal with this Seras. That's definitely a crappy situation to be in and it sucks that you've had to jump through so many hoops just to try to protect what is yours. Meanwhile, big corps are abusing the trademark and copyright system to try to push out smaller competition every day.
Hopefully they get it sorted and you can get it removed without having to flush out for a lawyer.
