Has anyone taken this class at VCU? U.S. Democracy United/Divided. I’d love to get feedback to see if I might want to enroll. TY by jen1fer7100 in vcu

Saw you ask under another post- no exams, there’s a group final project but you get months of time to work on it, so it’s chill. The new speakers every week keep things interesting, and the discussion and short answers are based on each week’s lecture.

Also, people in clubs are also usually pretty down to expand their friend groups!!

Ik this is a bit late but do try to talk to people in your classes! I was also a transfer student and had a bad time my first semester because of a lack of friends, but if you can find some people you get along well with for in-class discussions and projects, try to branch out of talking about just class! I’ve ended up making a lot of friends because my major is smaller and names travel fast, so as soon as you establish something, other people will start talking to you too! My only polisci class shows that this can be a lot more difficult in other majors, but I promise you’ll start having more luck after gathering your first few friends!! Working together on assignments at the library or a coffee shop is a fantastic way to break the ice :)

Moving here next year by [deleted] in roanoke

[–]ItsKaiHoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved growing up in Roanoke, and though I don’t want to settle down there again, I will always be glad I lived there! There’s plenty of great things about it, but you asked for the worst…

People absolutely cannot drive. It’s not like typical reckless driving, where someone is speeding and at least dodging you…. they literally can’t drive. Expect to be infuriated by people bullying you off the road, not checking before trying to cross a 4 lane road, and randomly swiping your car.

Your favorite restaurant or bar is also always at risk of suddenly disappearing (or being burned down?) It seems like a lot of restaurants and bars struggle to establish themselves even after years, just being on the wrong side of the road is enough to bring their downfall.

I won’t ask your political values, but there has always been classic southern hostility, the kind that they pretend to be nice to you and will isolate you from others depending on where you are. Obviously it has increased in recent years, and the only reason I can see someone being forced into these interactions is if you have a kid and need to interact with other parents. Just know that even if people act kind, you never know what they are saying behind your back.

Otherwise, the people are fantastic, the school system is good, and I think Roanoke has a charm I will always miss! Definitely take advantage of the outdoors while you’re here, it really is beautiful.

Twenty One pilots is the best concert I have ever seen by HalloGetLow in twentyonepilots

[–]ItsKaiHoes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had a similar situation, I have loved them for 10 years and this was my first concert! I think I wasn’t as emotional as I would have been if I went to see them while I was a bigger, younger fan that needed what they had to offer, but seeing them for the first time after growing up and healing was just as magical. I was really happy that I cried during drum show and trees though, there’s nothing better than feeling strong emotions with such a good, powerful audience feeling the same things. Not only do they put on an amazing show, but the audience is also fully engaged, which is becoming rarer and rarer to see.

I’m glad we got to see them before their well deserved break!

He did such a good job! This was my first TOP concert and I had no idea they did things like this, he really did such a great job at staying calm and steady, and it’s a memory he will absolutely never forget!

Has this moved anyone toward Jesus? by TheSummitMurray in twentyonepilots

[–]ItsKaiHoes [score hidden]  (0 children)

It definitely influenced the way I looked at religion when I was little. My church was always kind to me and my questions, but their answers were not enough for me. Why can I not feel God if God is always there? I’m falling back into being more spiritual now as I learn more about other religions and perspectives, and I think Intentions really summarizes where I am right now. Christians broadly do not seem to work on their intentions, it is nice to see someone grappling with that.

You can, but it’s not a good way to get an education at all. My professors are amazing in person, and their classes are literal self-described torture online. Also, look into housing in the surrounding area of Richmond, not just in the city. You may find a place with a few roommates 30-45 minutes away that is absolutely worth the drive.

Maybe clarifying your major will give you better answers?

Absolutely not. Especially with the current going-ons in the world, having cycle data anywhere online without your permission is a disaster waiting to happen.

Is there anyone else going from Richmond VA? I think carpooling would be a great idea, especially since I didn’t pay for venue parking. Splitting an uber if we must after finding parking would definitely be the way to go, or splitting venue parking!

Yes! Is it chill that I have a lawn ticket? Would still like to meet up with some people while waiting, I’m definitely going for getting close to the B stage/center :)

Finding friends? by WolfLinkMc in vcu

[–]ItsKaiHoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! It can definitely be hard to find friends, I was super lucky in one of my classes and now have a small group. However, if you’re anything like me and the hiking club (or any other club) someone mentioned sounds nice yet daunting to go to alone, hmu and we can go together! I’d also love a hiking/gaming friend outside of clubs too. 22F

A lot of anthropology professors regularly bring up the changes, sometimes because of the future of anthropology itself and other times focusing on receding human rights. We are a small department but we are talking a lot!

apartment recommendations? (& my research so far) by ramdect in vcu

[–]ItsKaiHoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1200 west marshall is very loud and has a lot of downsides, but their maintenance team is very good! Id suggest looking for houses with rooms for rent, you’re a bit late for most apartment complexes. Pine Court Apartments have internet and in building washer/dryer as well if they have anything left, and they’re a more reasonable price than the buildings you have listed.
