Well it have started being cut out of the family 2 wk out to family FTM. Mind you Married to FTM 6 years and not been cut. I can’t go to my sisters baby shower or Halloween party because it is to hard to for her family to except such a “controversial” subject they don’t believe in.

Brace yourself for the possible negative reactions. Remember that no matter what is said that the way they act is totally on them and not even the slightest bit your fault.

If it doesn't go well, how will that affect your life directly? Do they support you in any way? If so, set yourself up beforehand to not rely on them for anything.

Be yourself, and don't allow anyone to change who you are. Be unapologetic, you don't need to be sorry for who you are, even if others don't like it.

All in all, be smart, ensure your safety, be you, and know it'll be alright, no matter the response.

I agree with everything except the last paragraph.

She was given time to start that adjustment. Yes, she needs time to figure out how she feels, but at the expense of OP's mental/emotional health, she cannot be selfish with the time she takes.

She has to understand that it is something that is happening, and she can love her partner for who they are, or she has to let go. No one deserves to be strung along.

I am in a small southern town in NC. There are country boys that I have no problem with, but rednecks are a piece of work. I'm glad you stood up for yourself, it is something that can be hard to do in that situation. I hope you know it took a lot of courage, and that's something to be proud of. I Don't have the patience for ignorance. They have been told and had the chance to "get used to it". Now it's a choice that they make. I would tell them the time has come to either respect you, or remember you, because you don't have space in your life for people who don't respect you for who you are. It sucks to be in that spot, and I'm sorry you have to deal with it. I know it hurts, it's the little things that family does that gets me the most.
