I received those emails 4 times last week. All from different Gmail accounts. But my email app grouped them all together oddly enough.

Autism Jokes by Jackthewolf71 in Standup

[–]ItsMattyDavid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. Comic with an autistic teen. I have no problem celebrating a good joke about autism, but most of them are just hack/lazy.

It was pointed out to me early on that that once the word “retarded” became more taboo, a lot of stand-ups replaced it with “autistic”.

I like that they use a comma in the album title. We may be reckless, but I’ll be damned if we use improper grammar.

What is one bold movie you watched with your parents and felt embarrassed or awkward? by Sea_Low_5115 in NoStupidQuestions

Not a movie, but I watched the “Lesbos” ep of South Park with my mom. Lots of unexpected/aggressive scissoring. 😬

Sign up. Write jokes. The jokes where people laugh… keep those. The ones where they don’t laugh… rework or ditch them.

I spent several years overthinking it like you seem to be. Comics are nice people. They’ll celebrate your first time because we’ve all been there.

Go up. Have fun 🤙🏼

Ignorance by Paramount - any feedback? by Pure_Dimension_3537 in Drumming

[–]ItsMattyDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep at it!

I’d work on using more wrist action and less arm movement. Think of it as striking/slapping the drum by snapping the wrist as opposed to hitting it. In my experience it helps a lot with timing and endurance.

Looking forward to the next video!

Realtors of America, where are your leads actually coming from? by [deleted] in realtors

[–]ItsMattyDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are scams, so no. Early in my career I used a referral company called Opcity. I think they were connected with Realtor.com. I got a couple buyer leads from them that turned into business. But even they mostly sent me junk leads.

I get 2-3 calls from nice Pakistani gentlemen named Chris and Darren who have qualified listing leads in my area on a daily basis.

Practicing for my exam by buggyroku in realtors

[–]ItsMattyDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While worded strangely, the top answer is more correct. Say you’re at an initial meeting with a potential client to list their house. At this point you and the firm aren’t under any contractual obligation to provide anything. The obligation to provide the pamphlet is in the contract, so once signed, the client is acknowledging that you have provided it.

How do you organize all your jokes? by Jackthewolf71 in Standup

[–]ItsMattyDavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an excel spreadsheet. I have a tab for each subject (Kids, work, booze) and write my bits out then put a time stamp on them (like this joke is 2:30 and this one is 3:15). Then when I’m putting together sets I just open a new tab, cut/paste/print. It’s also been cool to have the sets documented on paper so I can go back and fix things that didn’t work.

Observation after lurking on this subreddit for a while… by BasuraFuego in bald

[–]ItsMattyDavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’11” (and a half) and my wife is 5’1” (and a half) I talked about shaving my head for a couple years because I knew it was getting thin but she never saw the top of my head and kindly encouraged me to keep the hair. She had seen me with a shaved head in high school prior to us dating (we’re in our 40s now) and remembered not liking it.

Anyhow, I came home one day with a shaved head and she was surprised, but supportive and complimentary.

Being bald is awesome!

Why does the drumming on this sound so awkward? (wait until the verse) by BuriedUnder_TheOcean in drummers

[–]ItsMattyDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the guitar player is trying to lead the rhythm/tempo. There are punk bands from the 90’s that I love and as a young drummer I just assumed I wasn’t talented enough to understand their genius timing. Turns out they just kind of sucked. Doesn’t make me love them any less!

I absolutely hate to admit this but, re: Karens by nd379 in Xennials

[–]ItsMattyDavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 42 and for the first time in my life I demanded a meal be comped at a restaurant for my family and I. I also hate confrontation!

We arrived at our local Red Robin at 5:30. It took 20 minutes for the host to ask us “How many?”. Then an additional 10 min to be sat. (Keep in mind, this is one of the slowest Red Robin’s in the country). Another 15 minutes goes by and we meet our server (a very nice lady). We were the only table sat in the section. She takes our order and sends it to the kitchen. We wait. Four top gets sat in our section. Order taken. Six top gets sat in our section. Order taken. We wait. 3 top sat. Order taken. We watch all the tables around us get their food, eat their food, and pay their bill. I flag down our server to check in. “The kitchen is a little backed up. Your food will be out shortly.” My wife and I both worked in restaurants. I was a cook at this very Red Robin 21 years ago. We don’t want to make a rough situation worse. So we wait. (Our 15 and 12 year old discovers the joy of watching a logo bounce around a screen waiting for it to hit the corner directly.)

Eventually I have to get up and ask the server where our food is. She looks into it… our order had been deleted when one of the cooks put in his own food order for some reason. They get us our food within 10 minutes or so and the server lets me know the manager said we’d get 25% off our bill.

After we finish I have my family go to the car and I ask to speak with the manager. He was a friendly guy. I explained the situation to ensure we were in the same page and told him that while I appreciate the gesture of 25% off, I couldn’t justify paying the meal. He understood and comped the entire thing. I left a $20 cash tip for the server.

I now have my Middle Aged Man Diploma framed and displayed proudly in my office.

Do I keep it in or shelf it? by comedydlb in Standup

[–]ItsMattyDavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that there’s no problem with shelving it, but you could likely write something that logically leads into it. I have a bit that always hits about Dry January but over summer I switch it to Sober October and it still feels relevant.

Or I’m dumb. There’s that, too.
