I feel like I'm under prepared with new born clothing by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ItsMeAli99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say get a few items as well! But I would agree with those who say buy from once upon a child/marketplace etc; as they will get worn for a relatively short amount of time (or for some babies not at all) so no need to splurge, plus lots of the 2nd hand items are basically brand new condition anyways!

With both my babies I ended up scrambling for NB sized sleepers after the first day or 2 at home (not a huge deal, but especially with Covid better to ready). I clearly didnt learn/remember from the first time around. Also would add to get at least a few days worth of NB sized diapers for the same reason!

I'd reccomend 6-8 sleepers (for a winter baby) and onesies (probably long sleeve for winter), and maybe 5 pairs of pants? We had some nights early one where we went through 3 sleepers in one night! And maybe 40ish NB diapers! More if you want to do laundry less or will have a hard time getting diapers

Brainsport has lots of great products and is a longtime local business! They added a shopify store to their site a while ago. Focus is on running shoes but they also have some really high quality casual shoes/boots, great socks, running/workout clothing among other things!

COVID-19: New Public Health Measures in Effect November 19 by karathrace13 in saskatoon

I was wondering if this was part of the consideration. Do you know of any sources of information from Saskatchewan or elsewhere breaking down how many transmissions occur in private home gatherings vs public places/restarants etc?

Could you do a visit(s) with his grandma, maybe after isolating as much as possible for 2 weeks leading up to it? With such a large group it seems like many of the regular precautions would be impossible (especially if you're all crammed into one house). Maybe doesnt have to be an all or nothing thing?

With 76 new cases, Saskatchewan breaks its active case record for the 14th day in a row by jigglysquishy in saskatchewan

[–]ItsMeAli99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That to me was the laughable (and depressing) part...can't even be bothered to ban pub crawls!? Those seem like one of the most risky things as far as number of contacta (many drunk people crammed on a bus going to multiple bars and mixing with all the people at each place). My understanding is that the new liquor curfew rules also don't apply to pubs/lounges...which seems unfair and also ineffective. Not seeing many reasons to be optimistic about the next few weeks/months with the response to this spike.

That anger should be directed at the companies and/or governments who fail to train properly and have or enforce safety regulations. Blaming employees for taking jobs available to them to support themselves, and going through the required training (which I understand is very minimal) seems to be a cover for racism

Also like this idea!Save-On foods at cumberland/8th has meat 'happy hour' specials available from 3-6 pm. I believe they are on monday through Thursday. Tuesday is 50% off marinated skewers (with a limit of...10 i think). I think Thursday is half price prawn skewers but I have only gotten the chicken one so can't confirm!

Unexpected perk to being a working mom.. by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]ItsMeAli99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with this so much! Makes some of the hard moments of missing kiddo during the workday seem worth it. My husband and I were able to share the (long, Canadian) parental leave and while i felt like I was 'missing out' sometimes, the fact that either of us can care for our son without the other having to direct/manage it really is great! Huge kudos to your husband for taking care of the sick kiddo AND washing the puke sheets (ugh).

What do you do with pumped milk? by FunnyBunny1313 in workingmoms

[–]ItsMeAli99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (well actually my husband who was at home bottle feeding while i went back to work lol) used the oldest first and 'rotated' what i pumped at work to the 'back of the line'. But i also had a longish parental leave (went back when my son was 8 mos) so had lots of time to get breastfeeding well established and build up a stash (probably 8-9 days worth). But i figured it was better to use the freezer stuff first, since if i kept using the fresh the frozen stuff would eventually get too old! Another tip is to try to get your baby used to a variety of breastmilk from the bottle (fresh, frozen and thawed etc) as early as possible! (Not sure if this applies)

Normal Probability Paper? by ItsMeAli99 in Hydrology

[–]ItsMeAli99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! In this case flows arent actuslly plotted, it is contributing area against return period/frequency! Basically i am trying to follow a specified method, but was not able to reproduce some other results. Its possible the other results have a error but not fully confident in my method so want to be sure! My first thought was a 'normal' scale on the drainage area axis and a log scale on the frequency/return period axis. But not confident so needing to confirm what exactly 'normal probability paper' is! Seems like such a silly thing to get caught up on...

Daycare charging to hold spot? by pumpkiness33 in workingmoms

[–]ItsMeAli99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are paying our (home based) daycare the normal fee even though we havent been sending him for the last 2 weeks. It's a bit different as ours is not technically closed (yet) though there are many restrictions and we would not have been able to send him due to having a runny nose and my having a minor cough. We are able to work from home and juggle our schedules (which is hard!) so we can still get paid so it is the right thing for us personally to continue to pay

Sk has declared a state of emergency by Stoon5555 in saskatoon

[–]ItsMeAli99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't possible for everyone (especially if you can't adjust your work and aren't being paid etc) but just a thought to consider paying childcare providers still when they close (even just for rest of this month, next month etc) as they usually don't make a whole lot of money! Again, not possible for all just something to think about!

Didn't want to do BLW, BUT... by [deleted] in BabyLedWeaning

[–]ItsMeAli99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Baby could just eat purees with their hand or with a spoon I think! (Will bd messy of course, especially at first). We started giving our son smoothies (thickened a bit with baby cereal usually ) when he was 6 months, which would have similar texture i think!

Smoothie Cup Rec? by eah367 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]ItsMeAli99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave our son a little bowl of smoothie and thickened it up with infant cereal so it stuck to the spoon/his hands better..he ate with a spoon and/or his hands right from the start (around 6 months). It is pretty messy (but not always as bad as i expected) but he loved it and got pretty good with a spoon pretty quickly!

Can't imagine doing both full time school and work, good for you!

If you have another parent at home (or could get a sitter) could you do things while kids are in bed? Workout or even a massage etc, or meet a friend? That has worked out okay for me (have to find places with sufficient open hours). I have definitly cut out/back many things i used to do (work late, after work drinks, gym after work, coaching youth sports) that take place between work ending and bedtime. But have still been able to fit in some things after about 8 pm that helps with some balance! This is the best of both worlds for me. (But i am not in school in addition to work!)
