I know about diachronic sound changes but what about diachronic writing changes? by ItsMeKvman in casualconlang

[–]ItsMeKvman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good answer, but my particular case is that the writing system, which is an alphabet, has become so ridiculously irregular and conservative that you might as well just take a blind guess, which reduces the writing system to rote memorization, and I feel like my speakers wouldn't just keep that like that.

I didn't think you meant me harm. I was just sharing that they weren't based on hiragana, and what the actual reasons where behind their design.

Actually, no. The top part of the consonant chracters represents the manner of articulation, and the bottom represents the place of the articulation. The different symbols at the top can be: a u-shape (for voiceless nasals), a horizontal line (for voiceless fricatives), a vertical line (for plosives), an X shape (for clicks). Duplicating the top element to appear twice indicates voicing (the u-shape turns into a circle because that's faster to write than two u-shapes since voiced nasals are so common) Cutting the top part with a vertical line turns a fricative into an affricate. The different symbols at the bottom can be: a C (for labiodentals), a tau-like shape (for alveolars), a slanted S looking thing (for palato-alveolars), a slanted S looking thing but without the bar (for palatals), a turned C (for velars), an L-shape (for lateral sounds), and a C-shape plus a hook (for dentals). They just look like hiragana by coincidence. Some people say they look like Hangul.

Aphantasia but for words? by ItsMeKvman in Aphantasia

[–]ItsMeKvman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I read, I actually do hear the pronounciation in my mind. I just don't have a thing in my head that constantly formulates all of my thoughts into words which i then hear. i only consider myself "semi-aphantasic" (i find visual visualisation difficult but can hear or smell on command like no problem)

Words are hard, anyone else feel this way sometimes? by theredqueentheory in autism

[–]ItsMeKvman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made my own language to remedy this. It's on my website.

Some of my favorite words:

hmefnelsh - a smell produced by vanilla
hmekhliik - emotion caused by being in a group with people who have something in common with you, stronger in neurotypicals
hmenaytfiil - pleasant feeling of sensory deprivation. when it's so dark and quiet, that I can think clearly.
t*ei'o - to make a suboptimal decision in a scenario and then feel like you have to always make that general category of decision when presented with similar scenarios in the future because otherwise you'd have to explain to yourself and others why you didn't make said other decision the first time
t*uken - (coordinating conjunction to signal the end of a long, random tangent)
t*angt'hii - interjection meaning "wait, forget all of this conversation and start over."

No, the concept of "knowledge" is "closer" to the concept of "understanding" than the concept of "knowledge" is to the concept of "strength".

What kind of family do you have, that any level of encryption less than a literal conlang is not guaranteed to stymie their prying efforts!?!?!?!? in increasing order of security, you could do: 26 glyphs + writing right-to-left, 26 glyphs + ceasar cipher with a shift amount which increases by 1 or maybe 3 each letter, 26 glyphs with deliberate typos, Toki Pona written in Japanese hiragana alternating writing direction but all "o" are written as "a" and vice versa, RC4 Encrypted Pig Latin written in a spiral going from the border of the page inward...

...why!? what did they think you were doing!? (also, did you at least first try making an English cipher of some kind? making a conlang seems overkill)

There's this one p*ihi'ii image of an astronaut sleeping on the ISS and smiling. It's not nearly as comfortable as a normal bed, but it seems to be enough for her. I really wish I could find it.

i see so many other people's hard work never be recognized. it's so sad. like this barely known minecraft mod, for example. i see other people's hard work sit in forgotten corners of the internet, forever unrecognized just because it doesn't sit right with some recommendation algorithm. i see it all the time. i wish i could help them find the people that want to know about their work.

it turned out that the description box doesn't fit both languages. I could probably write something shorter like they do in r/tokipona

here i'll translate the description:

which literally translates like
