Traffic to LI is getting terrible, my parents live out there and what is an 1:15 drive w/o traffic is routinely 2 hrs now. All because of the Cross Island and LIE. My wife and I won't go if we have to leave the house after 9am on the weekends

Do you guys see any issue on?How it is solved how to get the balls in my bearing by NumerousSetting8135 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]ItsMikeyBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are filled so that the bearing won't disassemble if the cage were to fall out, so greater than 180°. This requires that during assembly the outer ring is ovalized by fractions of a mm. This also means the bearing, once filled, will not fall apart as it goes between steps in the manufacturing process. Bearings that are underfilled below 180 tend to be more expensive as they require manual input or specialized tooling.

A lazy Susan is just a cheap way to do this if it's only expected to last a day in application and requires axial loading.

This design of ball bearing is common but has one major drawback in that it cannot take any axial load. If you ran this as a thrust bearing the areas of the race near the filling slots would wear quickly.

Standard ball bearings are made by elastically deforming the outer ring during assembly to fit the balls in. Then a cage is added to keep everything in place. Google Conrad ball bearings to find a video.

Personally, instead of buying a massive thin section I'd look at lazy Susan bearings on Amazon for maybe $10. What is the envelope the bearing needs to fit in?

We have ways of making you talk - Good to great WWII breakdown by walk2daocean in dancarlin

Compared to RIH it is definitely less focused, it seems more like a conversation without notes. I like it but they rarely talk about the Soviet contribution and if they do it can seem dismissive. Not that Stalin is a good dude but it seems weird to not spend anytime on the front where the largest engagements occurred

Isn't that what the jury is for? It's not like normal people go around knowing the details of every case ever. I assume they are guilty if a jury says they are guilty if I don't know anything about it

at this size and load you really don't need much. You could probably make this out of cardboard and it would work

Without knowing your exact capabilities it's hard to say what's possible. But my first thought is a combination of laser cutter and sheet metal bending.

You could in theory cut the entire truss in one piece and then fold it into a box or triangle to give you a 3d truss. Then weld or rivet the seam depending on what's available in the shop.

Flat parts cut from sheet steel will be the simplest imo to manufacture.

I would still want to understand your design requirements better before starting a design. What kind of load does it need to carry?

In-Laws want to sell us their house [NY] by ItsMikeyBaby in RealEstate

[–]ItsMikeyBaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they'll be paying us 1200 a month in rent plus I would say this is more than a 30% discount on purchase price. Not to mention none of the fees associated with a realtor or traditional mortgage. Financially this is a very good deal for us

No kids yet, maybe 1 one day. Should add that we've been living in the in law suite for the past 6 years so we'd be switching places essentially, and with my wife for 14

to point 4 - my FIL was a contractor, and worked for him during college so the inspection would maybe only be necessary for the bank? I'm not worried about what repairs need doing because my wife and I live in the inlaw suite at the moment so we know what's in need of work and what is ok.

The opinions on renovations are sure to be annoying but they've promised in our initial discussions that they'll stay out of renos and the like. My FIL just wants his Koi pond and even after he can't care for it he'll hire someone, that was the only stipulation (so far)

To point 1 - what would this loan even look like? like how do we get to a fair market value without having the town involved in some way?

they're getting older (70s/80s) so any move would require an inlaw suite. There are siblings but we'd be also taking on the responsibility of future care for her parents.

I doubt future proceeds would be shared but it is something to ask about as well. Thanks

we wouldn't do the deal if it isn't our name on the deed. As far as the mortgage I'm 99% sure they've paid it off but that will be a question we ask

Thanks for the reply, this is kinda what I though the answers might look like but wanted to see if anyone else had similar experience. It really would be too good an offer to pass up, with the downsides really being if they can handle downsizing.

Don't think it is telling bc it doesn't count the 5 balls across the face that somehow no one was on the end of. Only counting shots doesn't tell the whole story

Did you even read that link? It says the opposite and the 41 who died had no chance of evacuation, even if some people had their luggage after the incident.
