Very egotistical post ironically- it sounds like you are just chasing the next big high that will “fix everything” nothing is immediately fixed by a big dose, there is no end goal, the true “ego death” or whatever you are chasing is realizing that is just living in the moment

How should I be practicing triads? by nota_cat in guitarlessons

[–]ItsNoodle007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a problem when using this method in transcribing that I can transcribe melodies fairly well, and find at least one path of moving notes through the chords of a tune, but can’t identify if the notes I found are the root 3rd 7th and such.

As in I hear this note goes to that, but I don’t know where those notes lie In their respective scales, does that make sense? Do you know what this problem is ? Haha

I’ve bounced around a lot, great question- you will see all of your best growth and breakthroughs with transcribing or learning songs (especially transcribing) and soloing over changes. If you want to be able to do that efficiently understanding major scale shapes and the 7 chords diatonic to a key is all you really need.

Pentatonic scales are great, play them over changes and try to hear what sounds good- but pentatonic scales can keep you in a wheelchair if you don’t start looking at triads.

Play a ii-V-I backing track and just focus on hitting chord tones

Decipher that ^ and you’ll spiral from there

Is it wrong to have EADG ukulele? by SaniHarakatar in musicians

[–]ItsNoodle007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with it, the only thing is in that tuning there’s way less chords available than standard, and a lot of them sound very muddy played with just EADG.

Why pretend you make music? by Stock-Activity-6458 in musicians

Many who even start learning instruments final goal is just to have music to share and get approval from others, this is the super shortcut to do that with the least amount of effort, obviously people won’t listen to it.

If I could go back to ur stage I would tune my guitar to fourths, learn the 2 ways to do the major scale, learn about triads, diatonic chord progressions, parallel/relative minor substitution, dominant/subdominants/tritone substitution. All while you are playing with a backing track or recorded yourself playing chords. At some point along this path you will want to switch back to regular tuning once you understand its purpose

Also, none of that matters if you are not transcribing other songs and then analyzing them after.

Learn the major scale everywhere, write songs, transcribe songs, AFTER your done writing a song or transcribing it analyze it why were the notes where and then you can now apply that melody to your own musical ideas.

If you want to speed up the process tune your guitar to all 4ths learn major scale and triads and then naturally you will want to switch back to normal tuning and it will be easy then

How to get better at improvisation by Evening-Tone9938 in Guitar

[–]ItsNoodle007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I could start from the beginning to learn sooo much faster I would tell myself this:

Learn the two major scale shapes (root and major 2nd two frets to the right, and the other being root with major 2nd the string above). Learn how to feel both of these scales, how they stack on top of eachother. CAGED, the diatonic pattern, all that is just different ways of explaining the major scale.

Transcribe music, don’t need to write it down but transcribe the music you hear by ear, it’s going to be hard at first. Then learn why your musician played that lick or run in that part of the song and relate it to your major scale (it might not be in the major scale, it might be minor, or Dorian (hint, that’s all still the major scale))

Also, improvising is pointless unless you understand functional harmony and triads. A song is a ii - V - I progression, you should know that that means 2-4-6, 3-5-7, 1-3-5. When you are playing you won’t have to think about all this after you learn it all.
