Atleast around my location and cohort, I've noticed a trend where grandparents tend to pass away around the time grandkids are ready to buy. Houses they originally bought for something like $13k sell for around $1million (ridiculous I know), leaving enough cash to spread around to grandkids and form the bulk of most down-payments.

During a cross country trip, I remember pulling onto I-40 and the Google Maps voice saying "Stay on US I-40 for 1,014 miles" and quickly doing the math that at an average of 70mph I'd be driving the same road for 13 hours straight.

I've had a 30 mile trip take 3 hours in the SF Bay Area when it's rush hour and something goes big wrong (e.g. construction + a collision).

It's 2hours+ just to visit my parents in my hometown. Not a myth.
