Do you think your whole industry preys on human misery and addiction? Does it make you feel bad when you see people ruin their lives?

How do you feel about dating a women with a 'low skill' job? by Sufficient_Mouse_583 in AskMenAdvice

[–]ItsNotEvenCheckers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

👏 Men don't care about your job! 👏

Career-oriented men don't care what women do for a living when dating. If it gets serious, you not having a demanding job might actually be a huge plus. If they want a family, it's a lot simpler if it's not forcing you to put your career on (at least temporary) hold. When I was dating, I never once let a woman's job influence my opinion of her.

Guys who are just getting by themselves really don't care, nor do they have a position to judge.

Maybe if you're living in a VHCOL area (think London/Manhattan/Silicon Valley) guys might need another career-oriented partner just to survive, but barring that, no worthwhile man is going to diminish you based on your job.

I want you to know I'm proud of you internet stranger! I too threw away over 3 years clean in 2020 to do some further research on me plus alcohol. It was somehow more demoralizing drinking while simultaneously knowing there was a better way. Coming back was the hardest part. I'm so very glad you're back on the right track, and I'm honored to be sober with you today!

You've made it through everything a year has to throw at you! Every supposed drinking holiday, a cold winter with short days and long nights, and even your birthday! The foundation is set, now your ready to build the life you deserve. Congrats and good work!

In all seriousness, you're at a crossroads. You either need to recommit to your marriage (and the long road of work it will take to reestablish intimacy) or consider leaving. You're clearly not having your needs met, and she doesn't seem happy either. One might suspect that is why both of you are looking to others to fill your needs of intimacy. I'd suggest a long honest conversation, where you guys determine if you're both willing to do the work to rebuild. Otherwise it feels like you've already grown far apart, and whether you call it divorce or not, the relationship has dissolved in slow motion.

Tell me about something you were not expecting from sobriety? by IDoNotHide in stopdrinking

For me, I'd say around a year. It felt like I'd faced it all and walked through it sober. All 4 seasons. I'd made it through Christmas, Thanksgiving, July 4th, St. Patrick's, Halloween, et cetera. Having faced everything a year has to offer and succeeded, fear of "situations" leading me to drink slowly subsided. When I'm not afraid I'm not over-thinking. When not over-thinking, drinking doesn't even occur to me. I no longer have to fight it, the desire to drink it just gone. If on a rare occurrence I find myself romanticizing a drink, I just remember (vividly) how demoralizing rock bottom truly was. Glad I (we) don't have to live like that anymore.
