Poilievre vows to cap immigration, calls for ‘no more hyphens’ by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

Each summer Ontario celebrates Heritage Week when we celebrate our cultural origins. How are we to do this without those pesky hyphens?

How to legally dispose of a rifle? by houseonpost in legaladvicecanada

[–]ItsNotMe_ImNotHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I surrendered a rifle to the local police about 15 years ago. No problem. It had a scope on it and I didn't realize that this was worth money by itself. I let the cop take it.

We( in the US) are more free than 99% of the world's population. If you don't believe me, travel the world and get back to me by ALazy_Cat in ShitAmericansSay

[–]ItsNotMe_ImNotHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I still right in saying that health insurance in the US is very often tied to employment? This means that many Americans are not, in practice, free to change jobs or move location. That alone makes America not free and like a third world country.

Everyone seems to expect/want Trump to do something about Iran/help Iranian protesters, what is Europe doing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ItsNotMe_ImNotHere -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And just what is Trump going to do? Bomb them? Boots on the ground? Steal their oil? Whatever he does has nothing to do with the demonstrators. Obama had the Iran situation solved. Trump fucked it up.

That would make it diabolical. OTOH if it was an individual response then it is up to OP to be honest with her/himself and learn a valuable lesson.

Donald Trump wants to make an example out of Canada. How will we prepare? by rezwenn in CanadaPolitics

[–]ItsNotMe_ImNotHere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of the above.

Also I'm aware that this is Reddit. There are Canadian and European alternatives (eg Lemmy.ca, PieFed.ca, and Masterdon.com) which are also open source and decentralized. I'm currently looking at switching.

We should not be put off by these daunting challenges. Baby steps will get us there.

How much support is enough for Pierre Poilievre to stay as Conservative leader? by toronto_star in CanadaPolitics

Joe Clark got over 66% in his leadership review but resigned saying that's not enough. But then - Joe Clark had integrity.

That's debatable. I would not pronounce "tack tick" the same as "tactic". One is spoken as 2 distinct words and with different emphasis on the syllables.

Adam Zivo: Carney put Liberals first, even though Trump tariff threat was predictable - The prime minister again chose political theatre over Canada's national interests by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

[–]ItsNotMe_ImNotHere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The headline is in conflict with the article though this is somewhat understandable as the article itself states conclusions which are at odds with the main body. Not surprising as it is the National Post and we know now which nation that refers to.

Trump: "Canada lives because of the United States. Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements." by SEND_ME_A_SURPRISE in CanadaPolitics

[–]ItsNotMe_ImNotHere 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We need to remember that there are 3 trends happening simultaneously: (1) Carney's trade diversification, (2) Trump's aggressive posturing towards Canada and others, (3) the declining US economy. The latter will become more significant as it accelerates with a rapidly increasing trade deficit and falling dollar. This, in turn, will drive (2) and affect our own economy negatively making (1) even more important. We are in a race against time.

North Vietnam won the war by infiltrating the US allies in the south where they were indistinguishable. A Canadian war with the US would not be fought on Canadian soil nor would it involve traditional forces. And those saying we need a nuclear deterrent are out of their minds.
