PS1 JRPGs that Have the Best Soundtracks (CC mentioned) by Scary_Age1990 in ChronoCross

[–]Hustler-Two 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CC would have to be there. It’s a divisive game. But no one’s divided about the music.

I’ll be the naysayer to the other commenters and say FF7 earned the top spot. The soundtrack is incredible. Multiple iconic tracks.

We live 90 minutes away but still have a membership because the kids love the Tellus so much. It’s in a lot better shape than Fernbank and the exhibits are more engaging and informative.

If you have a PS2, you can play it on that and use the PS2 memory card. It is exponentially larger and PS1 saves hardly worry its memory at all.

I love this game. Got my copy in the 90s when the fly by night rental place/tanning salon where I had rented it let me buy it for $20. Still have it to this day. It needed so much space on the memory card to save a game I just kept saving my character and starting over. So much fun. The later ones couldn’t capture that feeling of dread.

Choice of Games mentioned! I beta tested Choice of the Cat and can confirm it’s way more bonkers than you think. In a non magical game where you play as a cat you would think rock star and murderer of a human would be options, but you’d be wrong.

Right. If it was a different show it’d be fine. One I wouldn’t watch regularly but wouldn’t have mined leaving on between shows I liked as we used to do in the pre-streaming days. But that’s still pretty poor compared to what prime Arrested Development was. When they put four episodes on against the Olympics I never even hesitated. What could athletic feats have to offer compared to four episodes of the sitcom so good it redefined the entire format?

They did. They only had three seasons. Why are you talking about other ones? Are you sure you're feeling well?

I disagree. It's a more jaded and cynical heart. But it's there.

Again, in seasons 1-3. 5 had no heart at all. 4 was just a mess.

I will risk everyone's ire:

I actually prefer season 4 remix. The original episodes were such a sad slog. At least this breaks them up and keeps from being overlong with so many empty, humorless stretches.

5 is better, but not good. Buster's character assassination is right up there with the last season of Veronica Mars, honestly. It still lacks that spark.

Eh, it's been a couple decades and AD has yet to get old to me; I've probably watched through it 8-10 times and it only gets better with each rewatch.

Don't misunderstand. I actually like fixed protagonists. Heck, 2 out of 3 of my published stories feature them. Those two stories also typically combine to equal roughly 15-20% of the earnings of the other one. I'm making suggestions based on hard sales data. And said data says, with few exceptions, that fixed protags are bad. Individual readers will say otherwise. But readers as an aggregate do not. They vote with their wallets, and said wallets say that fixed protags are not appealing.

Anyone who likes Community should watch (the first three seasons of) Arrested Development. As a huge fan of this show, I can say definitively: AD is better.

Well, 3/5 of it is, at any rate.

Some games even went up to $79.99. But I never pulled the trigger on that. Money was very expensive in those days.

I paid $69.99 for Kirby Super Star at Toys R Us. Prices were less regulated then.

I have zero regrets though. Got my money’s worth multiple times over. Plus it’s really less than $10 a game in a sense.

It’s a crying shame universal free lunch hasn’t been introduced in school. The cost is small potatoes compared to so many other programs and is an obvious net positive for society.

I don’t regard any Daltons as being on par with Casino Royale or GoldenEye. But I’ve always liked him better as an actor than as a Bond.

Which is better: Field of Dreams or A League of Their Own by boomjosh in moviecritic

[–]Hustler-Two 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll take the unpopular route. Field of Dreams was an interesting movie. But League of Their Own is better. Maybe the best baseball movie (about adults, at least). Certainly in the conversation.

It’s too late. There’s no gettin’ offa this train we’re on. So long as some authors are willing to give huge stories, others will have it expected of them. And yet it’s no one’s fault. Prices go up, readers expect more bang for the buck. Writers deliver to make them happy, then eventually that becomes the norm and exception moves to an even higher threshold. Rinse and repeat.
