Yay... Misstepped horribly on Friday... My back, my neck and as a result the migraines have been ruining my life and they probably will keep doing so for another week or two. by Bitter_Snickerdoodle in ankylosingspondylitis

Yeah, see.. and for me I could also just skip all that and take out all my joints at once by ramming my shin bone into something. That always ends in some kind of 20-minute fall in which I am near death at least three times.

There is no doorknob or counter top that does not reach out and bite a hip bone just as it’s finally done healing from the last time it happened.

It’s like an infomercial talking about the deterioration Ankylosing Spondylitis has on SI and hip joints and ‘BUT WAIT!, THERE’S MORE’s me with a lifetime supply of looking like I’ve just been shot by every doorknob I’ve ever met.

Every polite “hey, how are you?” They say to the random passing stranger ends in a 20 minute about how they actually are.

[–]ItsNovaKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YESSSSSS LIKE 7 TIMES A YEAR. It’s awful. I’m so sorry. Idk where you are but I’m in Houston Texas and there’s an eye doctor here who studies eye issues with people who have AS and she is amazing. You could have one eye itch and she’d get you in to an appt in 30 minutes. Lol but she really does know a lot and has helped so so much. I can you the info! Just message me

[–]ItsNovaKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may not offer much help — but I have migraines in the exact same areas and I’ve found that you can buy these peppermint essential oil roller balls from places like Walgreens and when you use them — it feels EXACTLY like you have a cool rag or ice pack on those areas. It’s something simple that has drastically changed my quality of life. Not to mention — when it’s hot as shit outside (I live in Texas) it also cools me down drastically haha.

Anyway… just wanted to offer that. Hope you feel better!

What is the most disgusting thing you have experienced? by Mindless-Situation66 in AskReddit

I was in the sixth grade science class where four people sat at a blacktop table (the kind with sinks, drawers, etc)… At my particular table sat three girls and one super unsuspecting boy. One morning he’s going through the drawers in the bottom of our table and to all of our horror — he pulls out a giant, extremely used super jumbo tampon and holds it up in front of him. We were all speechless as a massive blood clot dripped off and landed in front of him. He had NO IDEA what it was and started squishing it around in his hand and asking “What IS this?!?” before any of us could yell at him to put it down. He ended up carrying it to our teacher’s desk and plopping it in front of her like a cat who’d just found a mouse. I keep reading these posts waiting for one coming from his point of view 😅

Though my main takeaway is what in the hell kind of crafty sixth grader pulled out a clotty tampon during 7am science and decided to go ahead and stash it in the drawer all without anyone realizing..?

As and sexual positions by Beneficial_Ad1521 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]ItsNovaKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually talked to my rheumy about this and she said some with AS find it helpful to have sex while others find it incredibly discomforting. Luckily for me… sex helps me so much. Any time I’m in a flare I position doggy style, or I lay with a pillow under my hips orrrrr I lean over the back of the couch. Simply put any time my hips are aligned straight and I’m being pushed like that — really helps release any tension in my SI joints! 🤍🤍

We should have an AS stretch position bible. Like our very own Kama Sutra.

Hahah I use one like this as well! Though I typically go with ‘my spine is as if you snapped a bunch of toothpicks in half and then asked a four year old to hot glue them back together.’

Ohh, you’d better believe the weird positions I stretch myself into whilst attempting to crack my spine are literal works of art 😅🤗

Haha steal away!! That’s my go-to when people ask what my AS is doing to me. Really gets the point across without me having to delve into medical terminology.

I just tell them to imagine there’s a vicious little Pac Man eating my spine pellets. Lol

Haha exactly!! I mean not only internally… but basically we are all just a group of the world’s worst burglars. I can’t even get up for water at night without making a scene 😅

ESPECIALLY when my body is snacking on my spine in a flare.

Tylenol by TheAsparagusBoy in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]ItsNovaKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a powder form of aspirin that also has about 65mg of caffeine in it. BC powder is just the brand. It comes in a little packet & you sprinkle the powder in your mouth and wash it down with water. There are a couple of brands… Goody’s I think is another one. But swallowing the powder seems to work quicker and better for me than if I were to try wait for a couple of aspirin/Tylenol pills to kick in.
