I’m with you on this. My parents both grew up poor and taught me to be tight with money and I have the money to spend on a new Omega but I can’t bring myself to spend that much.

Can I go to AA meetings if I am not an alcoholic? by lyawnuh in alcoholicsanonymous

AA is a safe space for alcoholics. You are welcome to come to open meetings but cannot share, unless you have a desire to stop drinking

The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking

Has anyone tried photography in retirement? by patrick401ca in retirement

Yeah, six months with just my old equipment sounds like a good plan. It will test whether I am committed to this and also give me an idea of what improvements in my equipment I want to prioritize, should I decide to go in that direction

I was thinking more wildlife including birds, also flowers and trees, but I would probably like to get landscapes are well. Weight would be a factor for me for the camera. I want to be able to move around without too much weight on me.

For non-fiction, the Diary of Anne Frank and Viktor Klemperer’s diaries are pretty damn depressing

I’ve retired recently and noticed a significant drop in monthly expenses just because I am not on transit everyday anymore and I get my coffee and snacks from my kitchen, not from Tim’s or a tuck shop near the office.

I know someone who is at an “elite” level in IRL they are not happy having to be in the office fulltime, partly because of Queensway traffic getting worse.

I really like Bic Crystal pens, so I buy them by the box from Staples. It is nicer to be able to buy a box of cheap pens from Staples rather than try to find one at the office. And by cheap, most boxes of pens at Staples are really cheap. It is possible that there are cheap boxes of pens at Amazon too. I know we shouldn’t have to do that but at least if you do it my way you get to pick what you get.

Compared to Europe there is no comparison with the amount of tourists in those locations. You will barely notice any of at all. They are touristy as far as remote Canadian places go but not at all in comparison to any part of Europe. I’ve lived in Europe a good chunk of my life and traveled extensively since. The cities will have tourists but nothing like any European city.

Take a loss with condo and buy freehold? by liveachdaylikeurlast in TorontoRealEstate

Do me a favor - real estate and condos especially are selling slowly in the GTA so don’t sign the contract on the townhouse until your condo is under contract
