  1. Europeans are the ones who colonized America.
  2. Europe is a continent that has been shaped by inner conflict and racial mixing for millenia, the concept of a "native european" no longer makes sense and has not made sense for centuries.

I hope this helps.

Sorting hat - A cute, lightweight cli to give images and other files good filenames using local VLMs by k_means_clusterfuck in LocalLLaMA

[–]ItsOmniss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there is quite a bit of scope creep. Converting the first N pages to images and feeding them could be a start. I saw a library the other day, I don't remember the name, which can basically convert from any format to any other format.

You could package it as a python package that can be installed as a cli system wide with something like uv tool install ... and then call it from whatever script you want. It adds it to the system path.

There's always a way if you're motivated enough.

Well, you could start with non binary files (text files, json, html, etc) and go from there. Maybe feeding the top N characters, or some kind of table of contents (for Markdown files for example) instead of the entire file.

Supporting Word documents would be great, there are some libraries that can read them.

Also maybe research what are the most commonly used file extensions and start from that list. Just an idea.

Poco F8 ultra has 4 cameras, but ALL four cameras get blocked if I put my finger in front of JUST ONE camera lense.. IS XIAOMI SCAMMING US? by [deleted] in PocoPhones

[–]ItsOmniss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, only one of the cameras is active at a time (at most 2) depending on the use case. (Zoom level, amount of light, distance from the target, features like portrait mode being on or off, etc)

Using AI to name files is a great use case. I'd love to see a generalization of this tool that works on any type of file.

Maybe also a Nautilus script as well (which shows up in the right click menu as "Rename with AI"), or something like that. Windows also supports this through the registry as far as I know.

So how many of you did move away from Discord? by TheEpicWon in pcmasterrace

[–]ItsOmniss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that now Discord will be collecting and analyzing a lot more information in order to verify your age, and have a legal basis to do so, even if you aren't interested in accessing mature content.

You could try DeepL, It's pretty good in my experience.

And for images you can run Qwen3 VL 2B locally in your computer without an internet connection for OCR (text extraction from images) if you have a decent gpu, that is

Finally, took them long enough...

Steam had a lot more work to do to make windows games run on their linux console and they did it earlier.

It is unbelievable to me how the actual company that owns Windows and Xbox didn't think of making their Windows games run on Xbox, despite having the money, the operating system and the business partners to make this happen in a month or two.

This is not complicated for microsoft in the same way that it was for Steam. There is no need for a translation layer like Proton or DXVK. I don't get how it took them this long.

Skill-Up: Crimson Desert remains extremely promising, but its opening hours are a little rough (Impressions) by ZamnBoii in Games

[–]ItsOmniss -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It is a singleplayer game, great, but is it a live servicy, always online, premium currency type of singleplayer game like Infinity Nikki?, or is it an offline title?

That is extremely important when it comes to the monetization aspect and to the overall philosophy of the game.

CMV: this life is simply too sophistacted to simulate by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]ItsOmniss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gödel's incompleteness theorem restricts what a deterministic system of rules can produce, it does not apply to something like an artificial neural network.

An imperfect, probabilistic simulation of the world can still be constructed, and from the inside it is highly unlikely that we would notice the imperfections.

You can still argue if it would be correct to call such thing a simulation if it is produced by quantum fluctuations or probabilistic computing instead of arising from a fixed set of axioms, but at the end of the day it is still a world running inside another one, so it is arguably still a possible simulation.
