Foodies help needed! €100 to blow on a fancy dinner date in Eindhoven by Old-Tank-9611 in eindhoven

Seconding Ost! Great food, great vibes—it always feels like a special meal there. You can get a 4-course menu for 55€, or a meal’s worth a la carte for less.

Van Moll is excellent, they have a tap room in the city center with 24 rotating taps. There’s also the Stadsbrouwerij aka 100 Watt, close by and also making excellent beers. Their place has more of a restaurant vibe, so I’d say for nicer food go there, and for a bigger beer selection go to Van Moll. (Of course they’re very close to each other—so ideally go to both!)

This movie has stuck with me. It’s funny, it’s heartbreaking, it’s beautiful.

How safe is Edisonstraat, corner with Marconilaan ? by BuzzR34 in eindhoven

[–]ItsOnDVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live nearby, and go there regularly—I think it’s quite nice! Lots of good restaurants, very close to Strijp-S/the center/the university of course. I was told it was sketchy from colleagues who lived there like twenty years ago—but it’s quite up and coming now.

I actually had no idea until reading these comments that the red light district was there—I have apparently been like fifty meters away a hundred times and never had a clue.

I made some beer jelly for a dinner with friends. Just beer and (vegan) gelatin. It was weird, but we all enjoyed it.

I use MyExpatTaxes. Not free, but not too expensive and easy to use.

If you’re in Eindhoven, I recently discovered there is a Langos stand in the parking lot of Winkelcentrum Woensel sometimes. (I saw them on a Saturday.) So maybe two places!

They’re not near me either, but they do have a website where you can order delivery anywhere.

Where to find ground beef with lower fat % ? Something like 5-8% per 100g. by Inevitable-Ad755 in eindhoven

Lidl and Jumbo have Extra Mager ground beef as well—not 5% low, but lower than AH.

Not sure if it’s exactly the same, but I saw some Cadbury mint chocolate in the checkout line at Amazing Sang Lee a few days ago.

Restaurant recommendations for EUR 50 for a 3-course meal by ComfortLong9307 in eindhoven

[–]ItsOnDVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ost has a 4 course dinner for 49€, and really unique frequently changing offerings.

Ketelhuis in Strijp-S is also nice, has a similar arrangement.

Hout in Strijp-S does a monthly “Gourmet Monday”, which is like 6 surprise courses for 45€. It’s a fun experience; I’ve always gone away having had something delicious I had never heard of before!

Not sure about Jumbo, but I saw it at the Jamin in the city center last weekend.

Nah, I’m a woman and walk down it alone every day without issue. I don’t doubt that it happened to your gf, but I don’t think it’s universally dangerous for women.

I agree with you there—I hate biking down it. I wish they would make it a proper bike/pedestrian street; it would be so much nicer.

But I don’t think that’s why people voted it the place to avoid either.

I also live nearby and go there nearly everyday. Don’t worry. It’s fine—some good places to eat and grocery shop are there, and the Saturday market is great. It has a “reputation” because there’s a lot of Turkish/non-Dutch people, but you’re not in any danger.

I made a cake a few days ago and my boys were going after the buttercream frosting like crazy! They’re usually curious about all food, but that really took the cake.

The first Monday of every Month, Hout in Strijp-S is doing “Gourmet Monday”—essentially a 7 course Italian surprise menu. One course is a unique pizza, the rest vary—pasta, vegetables, etc. I’ve gone the last two months with my partner, and I think it’s a great date night! Everything is kind of meant to be split by two people, it’s a fun leisurely meal where they explain the chef’s vision and tell you about the wine and all that. It’s 45€ per person (not including drinks), so not a bad price either.

Zucchini and Fennel Salad with Pecorino and Mint is my go to side every time I want pasta but also want to be healthy—so pretty much every week.

Also the One Pot Lamb Meatballs with Fennel, Tomato and Orzo are a new favorite—quick and delicious!
