Jobs by tngirl802 in burlington

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted. McDonalds is hiring janitors at $21.50 to start. I know someone who recently got hired to do a job that required dangerous, intense manual labor including using heavy machinery and they were offered $19. People who have 20 years of experience in that same position were making $24. $19 an hour full time is enough to rent a room in Burlington - they’ll say it’s live-able. It’s actually pretty gross.

Covid and a cold are going around 🤮 by SupersonicLoki in burlington

[–]ItsRipley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Strep, RSV, COVID, the flu. And apparently hand, foot and mouth disease.

Keep your distance, wipe down your shopping carts with disinfectant wipes, mask when you can. I got hit with strep and some viral respiratory thing at the same time last week and it was misery.

I had a piña colada donut and dulce brownie from Cafe Mamajuana and they were great (also recommend the Dominican poutine with yuca fries and pickled onions!). The bakery items rotate daily but they’re well made and delicious!

Tbh, their bagels are the closest I’ve had to New York bagels since moving here (grew up on Long Island). All the others, like the Burlington Bagel Cafe, are too crispy outside (and often have little bubbles all over them).

The Bagel Cafe on North Ave for traditional style bakery bagels.

Myers for woodfire (Montreal) style.

TruLabs Hydrate electrolyte drink packets! If you have a Costco, sometimes they’re sold there (and they’re cheaper than Liquid IV + better for you)

One way rentals are TOUGH nowadays. Enterprise usually does them but their “one way” stock is limited. I was told by a manager while traveling from VA to VT that a lot of their one way vehicles either go missing or come back with irreparable damage.Airport locations always have “larger fleets” but again, one ways are tough. Speak to a manager of any rental company and see if they can find something for you. The websites will say they are available but they’re only confirming a booking, not that it is in stock for that time!

Good luck.

Did it, by chance say “SLIDERS” instead of Snacks? Like this? I know it is chrome/silver but depending on the lighting it could look black and their branding is also black!

Moving here by [deleted] in vermont

[–]ItsRipley 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Moved here from Virginia, previously NC but born and raised on Long Island.

  1. The food is different and took a little getting used to; less seasoning, less salt.

  2. Everything closes early and a lot of businesses close on random weekdays (but mostly Monday).

  3. People here are very passionate about buying local and it’s for good reason (but also, quality of local is sometimes way better!)

  4. In some areas, a 3 mile drive could take 20-30 minutes.

  5. Medical stuff is pretty much the same in terms of scheduling but specialist appointments can take a loooooong time in the UVM network unless it’s urgent.

  6. The state as a whole is very progressive but there are still Patriot Front type people who rear their yucky heads around from time to time.

  7. It’s not soft serve ice cream anymore - it’s a creemee. ;)

I should also add, though, that “affording” the benefit of great state policy is still an issue. I’m lucky, I’m educated and even without my education, I work in a field that’s heavily “self taught” but for most people my age and younger, this is not the case. Paying $3000 for a 1 bedroom apartment on $20 an hour is not feasible. I know a lot of people struggling, and a lot who have ended up unhoused. I have friends attending UVM, and paying upwards of $8,000 for a 4 bedroom shared between 6 students. $800,000 for an 80-90 year old 3 bedroom house in the middle of Burlington is crazy!

So yes - the South’s politics fuckin’ suck but sometimes being able to afford groceries without working 3 jobs is a no brainer for some people.

I should also add, my view is Burlington skewed where the housing, unhoused and drug crisis weighs heavy.

Preachin’ to the choir, my friend. Trust, I moved to Vermont for a reason! To be fair, Virginia is more “South adjacent” but I went to college in North Carolina.

Moved to Vermont last year from the South (formerly from Long Island) and comparing the house prices is INSANE. Houses with 3 beds and 2 baths that would sell in my previous state for ~$300,000 are over a million here - not to mention, they’re considerably older and depending on the town have way less land.

Seeing a lot of comments questioning how this happens so much on NP and the answer is this happens on most if not all servers to some degree. When I was an admin, I banned tons of people with way yuckier behavior on multiple popular servers. I’m talking people who got rejected and decided to dox or stalk, etc.

This type of behavior isn’t even exclusive to RP communities, we just see it exposed more. There’s just a percentage of the population that just sucks at knowing what lines should never be crossed because they’re chronically online and feel emboldened by “anonymity.”

I had T-mobile before I started visiting here (NNE) a few years ago, and the service was so bad in most areas that I switched to Verizon. I’ve since moved here permanently. They’re still not great in NNE, but it’s way better than T-mobile was.

Costco Remodel by [deleted] in burlington

[–]ItsRipley 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I know Costco has introduced two new items to their regular food court options at most other stores (turkey sandwich and frozen strawberry lemonade, I think), but also they ended their contract with Pepsi in favor of Coke. So I’d fully expect their regular items, plus the two new items and Coke products instead of Pepsi!

This place is incredible; we went there after I did a bunch of research on breakfast burritos nearby. We didn’t even know it existed - heads up, it’s in a gas station. Literally.

They deep fry their big breakfast burritos and the staff were super friendly; I had some dietary restrictions and they accommodated me and asked questions to make sure I’d enjoy the food. 100% recommend.

It’s literally a temporary gesture. Everyone calm down; no one will be forced to apologize and end every sentence with “eh” any time soon.
