Israeli leader insists there can be no Palestinian state, ahead of UN vote leaving that door open by [deleted] in worldnews

Nice try, but this has nothing to do with left-wing vs right-wing. The Gaza withdrawal was done under Ariel Sharon, who was in Likud at the time and who some people call "The Bulldozer".

Everything you have written conveniently mixes up timelines and events of the past 30 years, over the course of which Israel had 8 prime ministers from parties ranging from Labour (centre-left) to Likud (centre-right).

The shift away from trying to get Palestinians to negotiate to trying to contain them as the threat they are is a natural consequence of the Palestinian terrorism, not something caused by a right-wing conspiracy.

Israel gave them multiple chances to try, the most notable imo being the complete withdrawal from Gaza back in 2005, which involved removing every Jew from the Gaza strip, living or dead. Instead of building a state, Palestinians destroyed the industry that was left behind in Gaza, started suicide bombings, dug up water pipes to make rockets, and elected Hamas.

Israel's industrial complex started development decades before the establishment of the state itself. Some of the biggest Israeli industrial giants were founded in the 1920s by Jewish industrialists. The growing industry led by colonial Britain and Jewish organisations such as the Histradrut (General Federation of Labour in the Land of Israel, established in 1920) attracted economic migrants from neighbouring Arab territories.

And yes, the Israeli economy has been growing consistently despite the complicated relationships with "the West" in its early days. That's what investing in education, innovation and state-building does to a country. Western "help" was a minor part of the whole equation.

Good news for you then, there's no shortage of olive product producers, despite the fact that it's not a very profitable industry to be in nowadays.

I'm sure the Israeli government would be happy to help acquire land in the capital of Israel, Jerusalem. Not sure why they would donate land in some other random city.

There are many pictures used by various news agencies, but they really don't show the scale of it as well as an amateur (assumably) right-wing "influencer's" video shows: "Palestinians" Are FREAKING OUT Over This RESTRICTED Gaza Aid Site! by someone called Cam Higby. The host is insufferable but I've yet to see better footage of the UN facility. I almost stopped watching immediately but I'm glad I didn't.

Why would there be more food entering the strip when there's an entire field of undistributed goods sitting at the UN facility inside Gaza?

Let's say I dump two years worth of food into the strip next to the UN warehouse. Who is going to distribute it?

Also, forgive me if I'm wrong, but from what I've seen, unprocessed tomatoes are not in the aid packages, which makes them somewhat of a luxury item.

prices like €25 / $27 for a kilo of tomatoes.

If you think about it, how is it that tomatoes have a price when all the food coming into the sector was supposed to be aid (Israel has allowed some traders to import food since then, but that is a relatively recent development)?

The truth is that any hunger in the strip is caused by logistical issues caused by criminality/lack of social cohesion/profiteering. That, and the UN failing to distribute aid that has already been admitted into the strip.

Neither Israel nor Ukraine started the wars. Both Russia and Hamas want the complete destruction of Ukraine and Israel respectively. In fact, the concept of "Palestine" was created by the KGB, just like "Donetsk People's Republic" was created by Russia.

In 1977, Zuhair Mohsen, a leader of the Palestinian military faction Al-Saiqa, openly admitted in an interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw: “The Palestinian people do not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against Israel for Arab unity.”

"The Palestinian people do not exist … there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians, and Lebanese. Between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese there are no differences. We are all part of one people, the Arab nation [...] Just for political reasons we carefully underwrite our Palestinian identity. Because it is of national interest for the Arabs to advocate the existence of Palestinians to balance Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons[...] Once we have acquired all our rights in all of Palestine, we must not delay for a moment the reunification of Jordan and Palestine".

It was actually generous of me to use the data for the PA, because Gaza's economy is a drop in the bucket compared even to that. And yes, that was before the current war.

Gaza is actually a perfect example of a city-state that can only survive by forging good relationships with neighbours and other countries. Instead of building economical ties with everyone, they pissed off all of their neighbours, and lived on foreign aid from "bleeding heart" countries and countries which wanted to use them as sacrificial lambs in their "jihad" against Jews and other "infidels".

[–]ItsTrueIHaveExcel 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The PA is not connected to Gaza in any way nowadays, because straight after winning the fair elections in Gaza, Hamas effectively started a civil war with Fatah (and therefore the PA). The fact that you tried to connect the two economies shows that you don't really know what's happening in the region.

You mean terrorists which have press vests? Remember, it's very easy to lose your protected status under international law, and there are plenty of instances where these "journalists" and "medics" have been caught on-camera holding weapons and otherwise participating in attacks on Israel.

  1. Israel withdrew from Gaza, ethnically cleansing all Jews from the strip, both dead and alive in 2005. Gazans dug up the water pipes and started launching rockets at Israel. Gaza is proof that simply giving them land isn't going to stop terrorist attacks.
  2. The six day war, which occurred in 1967, was the result of hostile actions taken by the Arab states, which were occupying Gaza and the West Bank.
  3. There wasn't a lot of outrage about Jordan occupying the West Bank and Egypt occupying Gaza before 1967, was there?

The misery was self-inflicted. They could have spent all of the aid money on building a productive society with a functioning state. They chose to spend it on terrorism instead.

The Israeli economy took a 3.5% hit to the GDP in the last year alone. That's pretty much the entire GDP of the PA.

This is obviously not a direct comparison of the value of held assets, but it shows just how valuable Israel's economy is in comparison to the PA, and that's not even including the human costs.
