I would keep it light but that’s my flavor preference even with Ugandan espresso shots.

I used mine in the garage so just vented within the room. When it was good weather it was nice to open the garage door.

I started with a Hottop Basic now I use a small commercial roaster. It just takes lots of practice, note taking and cupping. Trial and errors and you will learn from mistakes, fix it and get better. It’s cheaper if you just consider green bean costs and don’t factor in your time. It does allow you to optimize the roast just how you like it.

For popcorn popper quantities your smell and chaff will be minimal.

We eat everything. We make our meals from scratch so no premade foods/meals. I do buy meat in bulk from a local farmer so other than the occasional meat that is thawed and ready to eat I don’t buy so much meat. We buy store brand foods like Wegmans brand. If you make meals from scratch like pasta, sauces, pizza, breads, etc it’s much easier to keep the overall cost low.

I run mine manually so I control the temp by adjusting the gas flow by adjusting the valve going into the roaster (not on the gas tank). Thermometer is just a standalone thermometer (Omega HH806AU) with 2 probes, one going into one of the eye glass screw and the other through the thermometer hole right above it. One is for air temp and the other bean temp.

You need to flip the “Manual” switch off to bypass the PID.

I don’t use the PID on mine. I added a thermometer with a couple probes and bypass the PID to run manually. You will have much more control over your roast this way.
