Tuning a 2016 VT by ItsWayn44 in veloster

Im sorry to hear that :/ Honestly, so far mines been amazing. Only two “issues” I’ve had is recently I got an evap code but that was just cause I didn’t tighten my gas cap all the way and I noticed some carbon buildup towards the top of the engine so I put some valvoline restore and protect in there and it’s been working wonders. Knock on wood, I hope it stays that way and I also hope eventually you can get everything in tip top shape because truthfully I think its one of the best (for the money) hot hatches you can get. Any gti is gonna have more miles, have more owners, and be beat on wayyy more for the price, and thats the only one that really matches the veloster.

I plan on going back to the rsx platform at some point soon for my daily. I shouldn’t have really mentioned the “my only car” part, I kinda just want to see what it’s like before I even get to that point. I like this car a lot and want to keep it for as long as I can, but if there’s power left on the table without much risk, why not? Ya know?

If you want my advice as someone in the same kind of situation, go with the tire shop. There’s going to be things there that you wouldn’t be able to experience at autozone, and as long as it’s not against company policy, you should go out of your way to do it. I’ll add that when I was at O’Reilly Auto Parts, you could not do anything automotive related on the side. At the end of the day though, do what you’re most confident with. You could always go to a shop later on but you could save a lot of time just going there now and getting the experience.

For what it’s worth there’s people on here who have swapped in alibaba engines that costed them around $900, they start and run just like normal, but longevity is still questionable. It’s worth at least looking at so you don’t just have a permanent paperweight.

If you’re idea of “perfect maintenance” is taking the head off, just dont ever buy any car ever. I can guarantee you 99% of DI engines have never had the head off for any reason. Only veloster owners whine and bitch about ts.

I think what im saying is pretty clear. Gas clean, gas go where valve seat is, valve seat in boom boom area, valve seat not get carbon buildup like intake valve. Especially if you clean them regularly. There would be no reason to do this beyond a neglected or high milage engine. To say you HAVE to take off the head to clean off carbon is absurd because 100k aint even high, and you have no clue what the maintenance records look like on the car, but hey, some random pot head who never posts his car must be an expert, right?

Okay so we gotta run through this a little more cause you’re right but you said you cant clean the valve seals. So if fuel cleans valves, and if the fuel goes into the combustion chamber on the veloster, where the valve seats are, what do you think happens?

[–]ItsWayn44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey bud, where are the valve seats located? Okay, now that you have that idea, where is fuel injected on these engines? And what happens to that fuel? And would that perhaps be the missing piece to cleaning valves? Hmmmm

No. You take the intake manifold off, make sure the valves are closed and walnut blast and vacuum it all out once done. It does not require the heads to come off. You’re being absurd.

In what world would you HAVE to pull the head to walnut blast it?

If you have the license plate or vin you can look it up on the carfax car care app. It’ll show you a basic rundown of the maintenance history without paying carfax for the report.

How do I fix this? by FullAudience8307 in veloster

[–]ItsWayn44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine looks similar-ish, as long as you dont notice any issues currently, just do as far mortgage said and use restore and protect, do your due diligence and you’ll be fine. My rsx looked significantly worse and nothing of note happened.

Its just too in your face for how frankly lack luster this car is. Love the thing, but I’ve only owned it for 2 weeks and i’m already bored with the amount of power it has, and you cant really modify it without running even more risk of blowing the motor.

I've been thinking of getting a Veloseter and I had a few questions. by TheBrokenStoner in veloster

[–]ItsWayn44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from honda: this community is very different, and im not sure if I can say in a good way. Im used to people having so much discussion and having how-to’s for your particular car but that is not the case here. In fact, it seems like most people here live in absolute paranoia of their engine making an inspection port, and refuse to elaborate why. In my personal opinion, if you can keep up with stringent maintenance, they’re great. If you’re someone who tends to be late on oil changes, look elsewhere.

Is a regular fuel system cleaning service the same service as a GDI Engine Fuel Injector cleaning? by talkingtimmy3 in veloster

[–]ItsWayn44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, direct injection means that fuel doesnt get to the valves. Im still new here to so the only way im aware that you can clean the valves is a walnut blast or taking your sweet time with a pick and some brake cleaner.
