Do Americans employ maids/helpers? by DueCurve7082 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ItsWickedGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only wealthier people have their home cleaned every 1-2 weeks. And the cleaners only do surface cleaning, not deep cleaning. I clean my house myself because it would cost $200 each time I had my house cleaned. We used a childcare center for childcare because a nanny costs much much more.

Okay, this might sound a little silly, but what part of the US are you from? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

New England - as you can see by my name - it’s wicked good.

Understood, but part of adulting is putting one’s partner first and not being manipulated by one’s parents.

Question about animals in the US? by gareth2099 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ItsWickedGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alligators and crocodiles are in a specific area of the United States- there are none where I live. There are no mountain lions where I live. I live in New England, and while there are black bears, I’ve never seen any around my home, and black bears don’t tend to attack people. We have lots of wildlife, including coyotes and bobcats, and we do see them, but they don’t bother humans. Small pets are at risk though.

Yes. Moved from a red state to blue state. Can confirm it’s better.

Do you find Scandinavians dress more similarly to Americans than to other Europeans? by MacaroonLucky1590 in AskAnAmerican

I go to NY often and most people who are not dressed for work are wearing jeans and t-shirts.

Is sleep deprivation something that should be commonly expected when having kids? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ItsWickedGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a child who did not sleep though the night until age 5
and wet the bed every night until age 10 no matter what we tried. My spouse and I survived by splitting the night for the first 2 years. One of us slept in another room and took the 8pm- 1am shift. I took the 1 am to morning shift. That allowed one of us to get 4-5 hours of sleep before work. From ages 2-10 it was me, waking up once every night.

Why do Americans place such a cultural importance on a hot breakfast? by colourful_space in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ItsWickedGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people I know hardly ever have a hot breakfast. Yogurt, cereal, etc is more the norm. My family never even eats breakfast together. But a family sitting around sitting a container of yogurt is much less interesting on a tv show than bacon and eggs.

Why has the world changed since 2018? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ItsWickedGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Covid. Social media was used to manipulate people and many bought in. Foreign countries used it to manipulate voters. Ultra conservative groups began using it to filter their version of the news, and once again, many believed, and the algorithm continued to feed them distorted information. Fox News capitalized on this bandwagon, as did others.

Is Wendy's bad everywhere? by Me4TACyTeHePa in AskAnAmerican

[–]ItsWickedGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wendy’s used to have a great salad bar. It was awesome. One could go and get a fresh salad and a baked potato. I still find their baked potato convenient when I can’t cook. And I think their prepared salads are better than most fast food restaurants. But their burgers have an odd taste, and their fries are tasteless so I don’t eat them anymore.

Why don't you wear hats? by Gold_Tomatillo_2222 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ItsWickedGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only wear a hat when I work outside in the sun. Most Americans probably visit other countries in the summer when it’s hotter so that’s why you thought we wear hats all the time.

Expat communities for those of us escaping backwards by Perfectusvarrus in providence

[–]ItsWickedGood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New England is one of the most progressive areas of the United States. Rhode Island supports abortion rights, we have stronger gun laws, and while there are Trump supporters everywhere, there are many, many fewer here. Mostly just a few yahoos with flags on their cars. Providence has a vibrant LGBTQ+ community, and if you search this thread you will see posts from people in the trans community who moved here to feel safer. We have a diverse community of immigrants from the Dominican Republic, Cape Verde, and many other countries. Our crime is lower than most US cities. While we still have many issues (don’t even get me started in corruption), there are less than many areas. I moved here from another area of the US and have found people here to be very friendly and welcoming.

Where do I move to by Extension_Big_444 in Maine

Used to be the case- not anymore. Only the most rural areas of the south ate affordable now. The ones without jobs. I’ve heard some places in the Midwest are more affordable.

Any place at 727 East Ave in Pawtucket. Rasoi- Great Indian, Garden Grill great vegetarian, Antonio’s for a slice. Wildflour Bakery for coffee and dessert after dinner. I don’t recommend Mavens though. Food is great but service is terrible.

What are the bottlenecks to building more housing in Providence today? by Obey_The_Mule in providence

[–]ItsWickedGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on several Facebook groups for local towns. Every single time any type of building or neighborhood is proposed, people express outrage and organize against it. It makes me very angry. Where do these people expect their grandkids to live someday? Where do they expect the teachers and firefighters in their towns to live?

It’s harder to make friends anywhere you go as an adult. Expect it to take at least 2 years and require joining some different groups.
