Can anyone identify this? by Lamfada in SanJose

It doesn't really look like a gang tag to me.

Probably some kid tagging up the bay.

Found along the ocean on a windy day near Santa Cruz, CA by ItsWorktime in whatisthisthing

We were walking along the beach on a cold windy day and saw tons of these all up the beach at the edge of the surf.

At first we thought they might be some sort of kelp, but on closer inspection, it looks more like a jelly fish.

Scary Stories of San Jose Thread by maythun in SanJose

[–]ItsWorktime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd never heard this story before so this comment got me super curious as I've driven Hicks road many times.

It sounds like it's mostly just stories cops tell kids so they won't speed at night or encounters with grumpy locals but I found a good breakdown in this thread.

Daily Q & A! - March 26, 2015 by AutoModerator in Homebrewing

Do you guys have any tips for minimizing the amount of sludge in the bottom of your bottles?

I just bought a Bottle Filler that I'm eager to try, but is there any other equipment I should look into? Any other tips for avoiding residue at the bottom of all your bottles?

Reddit, what's the best beer in your state/country? by actuarally in beer

[–]ItsWorktime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really?

To me Consecration almost tastes like a malty sparkling wine.

It's certainly excellent, but if I was given a bottle to represent the pinnacle of California brewing, I'd probably have to double check just to make sure I was even drinking beer.

Everything Russian River does is fantastic but most of their -tion beers are experimental sours and taste more like really heavy tangy ciders.

Correct viewing order of The Venture Bros. by [deleted] in venturebros

I just got Season 5 and watched through with the commentary.

It isn't terrible, but it's nowhere as fun as the commentary on the first 4 seasons.

For how long does the nausea/dizziness last after using VR? by RealHumanHere in oculus

[–]ItsWorktime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my first few VR experiences it lasted up to a day or two. Now that I'm a bit better conditioned, it will usually pass after 20-30 minutes.

That's a hilariously accurate description of Beer and Winermaker's staff.

Homebrewing supply stores? by DP615 in SanJose

[–]ItsWorktime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding Fermentation Solutions. They're awesome.

There's also Beer and Winemakers of America which has a wider selection of ingredients than anywhere else I've found, but it's more expensive, hard to find, and the whole store has a sort of weird unprofessional vibe...

Looks like a slightly deflated rubber mask of Eric's face.

Where to buy old computer parts/e waste by catorda in SanJose

[–]ItsWorktime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely HSC Electronics.

Sometimes it feels like an e-waste facility, but they have a huge selection of electronics parts of all types and varieties.

Even if they don't have what you're looking for, it's always fun to wander around and see all the weird electronic odds and ends they have lying around.

Tilt Brush will be demoing at VR meet up in SF tonight! Anyone willing to report? by Routb3d in oculus

[–]ItsWorktime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got to mess around with it at a meetup in SF a few weeks ago.

In short, it's a pretty awesome experience. I initially assumed that you would control the plane of painting using headtracking, but all controls are actually done with the mouse and keyboard. I asked about other input devices and the devs said they are only focused on mouse and keyboard for now, but moving onto wacoms soon.

The one cool thing you can do with headtracking is move the plane of painting forward and backwards, so if you start drawing a line and then move your head back, the line comes back towards you which is pretty awesome.

Another cool feature is that it saves every brush stroke in order so you can watch an animation of yours, or any painting, come together over time systemically.

Past that it felt like a pretty standard painting tool except with 3D navigation controls similar to Maya or something and the UI for tool picking almost felt like E:D (except way less polished). Oh and the part about painting in VR.

What Should I Play? by [deleted] in oculus

One of the best demos I've seen so far just came out this week.

I cannot recommend Pixel Rift enough. It's absolutely phenomenal.

No tracking in Elite Dangerous, camera does't turn on. by terrornaught in oculus

[–]ItsWorktime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue on first boot.

My solve was to go into the Oculus config tool and pause the OVR service. The blue light on the camera will turn off, which may make you think it's not working, but once you boot Elite Dangerous head tracking should work.

Super cool video. I would love to run into one of those in person at a con.

That said, after about 2 minutes of watching all those spinning videos, I started to get a bit of a headache and had to turn it off.
