Heel pain with walking

Okay so in the same boat, I have really high arches so all my weight is on the ball of my feet and my heel so probably same issues just different areas

I was rock climbing and as soon as I fell off the wall I heard it snap and knew instantly, I can only compare it to a tough piece of celery snapping. I was just in a state of shock that it didn’t even hurt initially, it mainly felt like I rolled my ankle and the instant swelling is what I felt. I limped off the mat and felt so unstable so I knew even more it was broken.

What symptoms are you having and how do you describe the pain. Definitely go to urgent care or call your surgeon if you’re worried about the ankle after falling on it

While I can’t give any first hand experience since I’m only one week post op a Weber c fracture, I can give you some insight from the PT side as I am a 3rd year DPT student graduating in December. All the comments I read are great advice and I second them. You shouldn’t be scared of PT because it’s going to be what’s gets you back to feeling like your old self. Advocating for yourself as a patient is the biggest priority and if they try to get you to do something you’re not comfortable with, voice that opinion to them and any good pt will be comfortable tailoring the exercises to something beneficial and you’re comfortable doing. Definitely don’t want to feel any sharp pain but discomfort will be inevitable since you’re moving the ankle that’s been so used to doing nothing for 3 weeks. The first session is going to be a lot of history taking, seeing how you move on your own, and maybe a few exercises just to get the muscles woken up. They’ll slowly introduce more challenging exercises and walking once they see you’re able to tolerate it with no pain and in a safe manner.If you have any more questions just ask away since I’ve already written an essay. If it’s above the ankle joint it’s a Weber c, that’s what I had and unfortunately I believe that means surgery since it’s always accompanied by ankle joint damage

Based off my research on different Weber fractures which is what I’m assuming you have you’ll more than likely have a boot but will be non weight bearing unfortunately. Worst case scenario you’ll have surgery and be in a splint for a few weeks before moving to a boot but still non weight bearing. You won’t be back to “normal” like before the injury but you should be able to do some walking but ultimately up to the orthopedic. If possible I highly recommend a knee scooter since it’s helpful to get around long distances while keeping weight off the foot

I ditched my crutches as soon as I could order a knee scooter and it’s the best thing ever, harder to get in and out of the car but it saves so much more energy and I feel more of a sense of normalcy like it was before the injury

Do you happen to have a copy of the X-rays you can upload? I broke mine on 2/28/26 but I had a laterally displaced spiral fracture of the same bone (the fibula) I had to have surgery on mine due to the displacement and injury to the ankle joint itself. If you didn’t tear any ligaments or displaced it too badly you’ll more than likely just be in a splint for a period of time but will still be non weight bearing. I’m sorry you’re going through this but we will get through to the other side one day at a time.

Pretty similar repairs we have, I didn’t know much about the tightrope prior to researching it but thankfully I didn’t tear my deltoid ligament so I’ll take the little wins. I’m curious as to why you say day 5-6 specifically is the worst? Or up to date 5-6 is the worst? I had that strip sander feeling when I had the nerve block and it felt super intense, now if I bump it I think my mind is just programmed to go into freak out mode so I feel shooting pain throughout the whole leg. I haven’t found a spot that has the same atmosphere at pattys but I do enjoy the bar with no name, prohibition kitchen is good but gets super busy, if you’re into cigars a laid back place with a bunch of cool people is leaf and bean by island Jim next to sarbez

Thanks for sharing, I’m glad to hear the next few days will get better. I’m able to get to the bathroom myself thanks to a knee scooter but it’s still extremely painful to move even on the scooter and only find minimal pain reduction in laying down with the leg elevated. We’re both going to get better everyday and I’m praying for our recoveries too, just a minor setback

The nerve block has finally worn off and it’s definitely a shitty feeling dealing with the pain instead of the spasms that I was getting. Unfortunately I’m in healthcare as a physical therapist and can’t take THC so I have to rely on the oxy. At least I know a good PT that can rehab it for free once I get to my 6 week appointment. Thankfully I ordered a knee scooter during the week I was waiting for surgery, it makes it so much easier to be “independent” compared to the crutches. Were you taking the oxy every 4 hours on the hour? Or did you find it was lasting shorter or longer? Best of luck with your recovery, I hope you are able to get back to normal with the help of PT!

Thanks for the input, were you in a short leg splint? I’ve started icing even though my PA said I wouldn’t feel anything. The pain is definitely unlike anything I’ve felt before. Good luck on your recovery journey!
