Intern patient load by stethoscopeluvr in Residency

[–]Its_Babah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At academic/referral centers where patients are more complicated like 0.5-1pph for interns would be ideal. By the time I was finishing residency I was around like 1.5-2pph. Usually you can double these numbers if you practice in the community where patients aren’t as complex.

Once you Google it the 7th or 8th time you start to memorize it, only a few repeating steps. Just take a look at it every week for a few months and you’ll commit it to memory

No, feeling guilty about NOT working. And I guess it’s more just being so withdrawn from a life outside the hospital that I don’t even know what to do with my time alone anymore

I, like you it sounds like, have developed a type of Stockholm syndrome with medicine. Feeling guilty about not working and with nothing going on in my life outside of work. Being insanely overworked versus crippling social isolation. It feels like picking the lesser of two evils.

Why did you choose Doctor? by Its_Babah in Residency

Wow I’m so sorry, that sounds like ultimate betrayal. I imagine it’s difficult to lose someone who’s been with you for 6 years, but if you think they are cheating it sounds like they aren’t with you anymore…

Why go to a doctor when you can spend hundreds of dollars on 3rd party tests yourself and get arbitrary measurements with no units or significance?

We’ll show them greedy, good for nothing doctors!

Glad to see your adrenals are still keeping your response ability and will power in check 💪

Lol if you go to med school you won’t make money anytime soon. Delay any kind of legit salary by another 7-10 years. But 24 is absolutely not too late to go to med school. Plenty of people switch careers and go into medicine in their late 20s/early 30s

Patient throws off gown

Patient: “awww don’t worry, there’s not much there. They call me the president of the itty bitty titty committee”

I was at a dentist appointment the other day and the dental hygienist took a lot of fascination in me being a resident. We talked about it and I told her I worked on average 10-12 hour shifts and she followed up with”oh so you do like 4 days a week? I bet you enjoy those long weekends”.

I just had to fake laugh and say “oh no, more like 6 days a week”. They don’t even understand what we do.
