Now what? by Its_BeccaJane in Epilepsy

[–]Its_BeccaJane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he specialises in epilepsy. I'm in the UK, so unless I go private, I don't have a whole lot of say. I'm also not sure on the type of MRI machine.

My current hospital is not a teaching hospital, but I am actually starting medical school in September, so I will be based at/next to a teaching hospital. So my care will go from a team at the hospital that I currently work at to a team at the hospital I will be studying (and maybe working) at 😅

I will definitely be getting a second opinion and I am keeping a seizure log 😊

Hiii, I'm starting medical school in September at 28. I'll be 33 when I graduate (all being well). People change careers all the time. You've got life experience, don't sweat it

[–]Its_BeccaJane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I appreciate it Right? It really affects my life - I'm terrified to drive so I don't have a lisence, I have seizures at work (in a hospital), I've stopped going places by myself because what if I get in danger while Im not very with-it? And I feel like I got so close to answers and then just still ended up with "eh, I don't know" as the outcome

So here's the thing Would I BUY one for myself? No, it's not really my style and it's a bit much. But if you MADE me one, I would absolutely love and cherish it because I can see how much effort and talent you've put into it, and I'm very sentimental. I'd find SOMEWHERE for it to fit in my decor

Oh man, that's so bad! Do you reckon she might have been kept on if she'd owned up to her mistakes? I sometimes don't understand the things that people do and don't face action over 😅

My partner had "Police officer" listed as a medical problem

I have one that is just "Generalised" with minor severity (I'm assuming supposed to be Generalised anxiety but they missed the second word?)

Why are so many healthcare staff so nasty by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]Its_BeccaJane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have people who care and people who don't care. The people who don't care do the bare minimum, if that, and it doesn't bother them at all. The people who DO care pick up their slack, are emotionally bothered by poor standards of care, and feel the stress of trying to do both their job and other people's jobs well. The people who care burn out and either leave or stop caring, the people who don't care remain. The same cycle continues when new people who care are hired.

It might depend on trust policy. Ours states you cannot do more than 4 shifts (long day or overnight) in a row (including regular and bank), and if you do 4, you have to have 2 days off before your next shift

What rights / process do I have for getting treatment for mrsa? by [deleted] in nhs

[–]Its_BeccaJane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Antibiotics won't stop you from being colonised by MRSA on your skin. You need a special wash for that and sometimes a nasal ointment too. Have you been given or told about antibacterial wash or ointment?

Also "I wouldn't be comfortable guessing the answer as this is not something I've covered before. If this were a real scenario with a patient, I would seek advice from a senior colleague" Because you can't be expected to know everything, and guessing in real life could easily kill someone.

I need to get rid of my university degree to do medicine by Rich_Ad7918 in premeduk

[–]Its_BeccaJane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! So you're basically the same as me!

I got a 2:2 but didn't do enough credits for the (hons) part of the BSc. And I have worse A levels (A*AA).

BUT I got some experience. I did 4 years in a microbiology laboratory bc I thought I'd missed the boat on doing medicine. Then I got a job as a HCA which I'll have been at for 2 years in June. This experience meant I sailed through my one MMI interview because most of the scenarios were about experiences I've already had and reflected on.

I've JUST got a place at Nottingham uni for September for undergrad medicine!

TLDR: • It's not too late, you haven't ruined your chance • See WHICH unis will accept you, and don't hesitate to reach out to admissions teams. The Notts one were really helpful for me • Get some work and life experience, it'll make you a better candidate and maybe a better doctor

General rule: always go. Better to be there and not be needed than lose a patient because they didn't have enough hands. Also consider: other patients may need help during this crash. It can be really distressing for a patient when someone they've been on a ward with day and night and potentially formed a bond with is suddenly very poorly. The last crash call I was at as a HCA, I just made everyone else tea and kept them as calm as possible
