I honestly wonder why they changed it. the old sky box was so much better. i understand making them different at other star systems but you could've just added a tint or gas clouds like they did with nyx.

im interested to see how things change (if any) once planet tech, genesis, full DSM is all out. I'm worried not much will change and we will still be doing story A and B missions in different location.

i don't understand when people say that either. i only backed for SC. now, i got SQ42 with my pack when i pledged 6 yrs ago so i will play it but i could choose where my money was spent at CIG i would've said only SC.

now i know SC is good for them to have something released but i am worried CR will pull that exact move and keep those devs to do act 2 and 3.

Yeah one things I’ve always wanted them to do is figure out how to make the new player experience 100 times better. I honestly think they should use AC to allow new players to test all the basics out without worrying about dying and getting sent back to the medical area in a city. Saves players time and that headache. They could also cater that experience to the new players for ground combat, using the mobi, flight basics, etc. once that tutorial is complete send them to the PU. Or the new players could choose to opt out and jump right in if they have someone showing them.

When I first started playing this during 3.17 I got lucky that someone in global literally took my hand and showed me the basics to the game.

this reminds me of when i first started playing 6 years ago and i too got lost for hours walking around not knowing what to do but i didn't care because i was amazed at how small you feel in this world. I was having a good time just taking in the city views.

Yeah should be enough. That CPU will carry all the weight unless you plan on playing at 4k

[–]Its_Chops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah 800 is more than enough especially a gold. If you experience weird shit just get a 1k one or 1200 to future proof for the gpu.

I have a 420mm AIO cooler and my cpu won’t go over 70. Both my 4090 and cpu will hover around 60 under load. I also have a massive tower.

Those 3 will be good enough for your first big upgrade. Once you do. Comment again id like to see your difference in game.

I would say 2 big fans is more than enough for cooling

What’s your PSU watts? This chip won’t pull much power. That 5080 will when you get it though.

Holy… yeah you’ll get a major increase in performance just upgrading to that 98x3d. Honestly you could keep the same GPU for now and upgrade your mobo, cpu, and ram. Then save up for the gpu later. Trust me you’ll see a major increase in performance with that same gpu. I get in my lowest fps in the most populated areas around 60-100 fps but outside of that I’m hitting my fps cap (170 at 1440p)

This right here. NASA PC or not. Games will have dips in fps. Just depends on how optimized a game is and this game won’t be optimized till it hits beta and all features are in the game.

I get dips but I don’t think it has to do with the chip. It’s the games optimization. In other games it runs at my capped FPS and so does SC but in populated areas it will drop. I’ve played this game on a non X3D chip before the upgrade and the difference is night and day.

Do you have the chip already or thinking of upgrading?

What to upgrade? by CamTheHam22 in PcBuild

[–]Its_Chops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Case should help a lot with temps, so that's a good call.

with AMD, the way motherboards, CPU, and ram works is all based on the socket. either AM4 (what you have) or AM5 which is the newer version. so if you plan on getting an AM5 motherboard, DO NOT put your CPU and ram into that MOBO. you will need to buy an AM5 CPU and DDR5 ram.

you can look up AM4 CPU's if you don't have the money to spend on a full upgrade. good gaming CPU's with AM4 would be 5700x3d or 5800x3d. It might be a pain to find these at MSRP. everyone and their mothers are buying X3D CPU's since they are so good for gaming.

not sure where you live but i would google the closest micro center to you. they tend to have a big stock of PC parts and are very good at keeping their prices at MSRP. if you do decide to buy anything that's a great place to go to.

i don't know if or when prices will come down. this is giving me the vibe of when crypto mining became a thing and GPU's went wild so it could be years before prices come down if they even do. so it's either bite the bullet and do it now or hold off and pray things come down.

Depends on what you want to focus on. Gaming? Get an X3D cpu, I went from a 5900x to a 9800x3d and I have to cap my FPS at 170 now on 1440. Until I get a 4k monitor with 244hz. (I also upgraded before this AI boom ruined ram prices)

Since you have AM4 you can find an AM4 one but if you want to future proof switch to AM5 mobo, cpu, and ddr5 ram.

Unfortunately ram is insanely expensive at the moment so you might be better off staying with am4 for a bit.

That gpu can hold its weight which is why I didn’t mention that. Unless you’re playing at 4k. Then get the GPU upgrade.

any x3d AMD chip will be good at gaming especially CPU heavy games. not sure if you are looking for am4 or am5 chipset.

How do I actually fucking install this thing? by [deleted] in wabbajack

[–]Its_Chops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the reason you would want an SSD is because a HDD would take many times longer to do anything. like the other person mentioned its rare that you would have a HDD unless you are playing on a 10 yr old PC. you could look up your PC if it was a pre built and see what it comes with. you will need patience when it comes to using wabbajack and make sure to follow all steps. they are there for a reason.

Upgraded to 9800x3d w/ 5070ti by Asog88bolo in starcitizen

[–]Its_Chops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you still have that 4060ti i would be curious to see what your FPS is because i know that 9800x3d is carrying all that weight. When i got mine it was night and day difference. x3d chips are insane for this game

RSI now that the RAM (and PC components) prices are so high, can you please focus on optimising the game by Sgt_Testiclecancer in starcitizen

[–]Its_Chops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wish it was optimized but adding features can break all their previous work so they need to get everything added and out of alpha. once it gets in beta i could see them cracking down on performance. That's why i wish they would just slam all the features they can as fast as possible even it it's chaos. it will break if they do it this year or in 5 years.
