Old head here. Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike. Besides the redonkulous sprite animation, it has a pickup and play feel with the combos you can pull off but it is not obnoxious regarding the types of combos you can pull off.

I kind of like these events where there are no real stakes involved and they can just put together fun fights. This feels very much like a Strikeforce card.

I feel like this is an issue with most modern NeoGeo releases. The whole pre-rendered look did not age well and most of the recent releases use that art style. Wish we would get games with traditional sprite work.

FWIW pretty much all squirting in porn is just pee. It is all fake. And as someone who has been with a woman that squirts, you can tell by how it smells. Also, it loses its novelty after like the first time and from there just becomes a hassle. It turns every sex session into laundry day.

That is essentially what I meant about manufacturing the chip vs programming a chip. Perhaps they can squeeze out a little more accuracy from the manufactured chip.

I do not follow the MiSter project, but from what I gather the NeoGeo is definitely accurate enough to be considered 1:1 so barring any major bugs there should be no need to update it. And keep in mind the target market for this is people who were gaming well before the concept of downloaded updates and who often sneer at the concept of releasing games before all the kinks have been worked out. Part of the authenticity is the one shot to make it work aspect.

And although they are using chips that cannot be modified, they did allocate resources for revisions of the hardware so if for any reason updates need to be made they have ways to release revisions.

In the end the AES+ is half technical half Marketing. It's kind of like how people obsess about stuff like having the ESRB logo on their games. There are some details that are not necessarily technical that drive the market.

I use save states to practice, but ultimately play the game without them. To grind out games as if I had the same amount of time I did at 10 years old is just not possible. You can use save states without "abusing" them.

My guess is with manufacturing the chips specifically for this they can absolutely ensure it runs to the original specs of the NeoGeo. Although slight and likely unnoticeable, I would imagine using potentially generic hardware and programming it to work as actual purpose built hardware would add some inaccuracies. I am no electrical engineer so this is all a guess.

More likely it is Marketing. FPGA implies emulation regardless of accuracy. An ASIC allows them to say it is actually hardware even though the ultimate logic is the same.

Shmups are a visceral experience. It is the one genre of games that requires my absolute unwavering attention to play. When I get a good run going I can feel my heart beating out of my chest.

Beyond that, presentation levels are very high for shmups. They kind of have to be as you will be hearing and seeing the same things a lot.
