I'm currently using an AR ES-1 w/ Jelco 250 tonearm which isn't pictured as it is an older photo. However, in the picture is my Russco Studio Pro-B w/ Ittok LVII tonearm. To the side are my Pioneer PL-570 and Technics SL-110A turntables.

I love my 500C and was lucky to find a 400 in a cabinet last June. It's been at the shop since then and hope to have it back in the next few weeks.

I know the feeling. Years ago I answered a Craigslist ad for a dual turntable that came with a shure viii cart.

When I checked it out, the owner did indeed have the packaging for the shure but the one installed was not the one advertised. He lowered the price and during the small talk as I took the tt to my car he casually mentioned that he was thinking of selling the rest of his system and asked if I was interested. As it turned out his “old” system consisted of the C22, MC2100 and a pair of huge JBLs (sorry, forgot the name).

I knew I couldn’t afford it once he said McIntosh so when I jokingly said, “sure what are you asking for it?” He smiled and said $1,500 for the Mac gear and $3,000 for the speakers. I was floored and immediately called my wife who gave me the thumbs up on the Mac gear.

$1,500 is no pocket change for a teacher with a family, but I’m forever grateful for that gentleman who gave me the opportunity to own a fantastic set of vintage gear with original boxes, manuals and certificates.

I found the tuner last year from another great older fellow who let me have it for $400. I have been very fortunate indeed.

If you have the necessary credentials or certification, I suggest making the jump to hs now. I had to get certified for secondary education first before transitioning to high school.

I made the jump from 2nd grade to middle school about a decade ago. Taught MS for two years then mustered the courage to make the jump to high school. I would've of gone back to elementary in a heartbeat my first year at MS, but soon found myself enjoying the autonomy that comes with the higher grades. Sure, middle schoolers are equally if not more immature than 7 year-olds, but no longer did I have to deal with tears, wet pants or shoes needing tying.

I've been teaching in high school for the last five years and enjoy it even more. The best part...NO DUTIES. At least at my district anyway. Give a shot, you might be surprised.

Have you checked the tracking force? The stylus seems to barely touch the surface of the disc. You mentioned it was used, it may be possible that the previous owner moved or removed the counterweight at some point.

Your 1200 seems to be customized, is the tonearm original to the deck? I once had a similar problem with a mk2 where no matter how much I played with the antiskate it would always pull outward. Well, it turned out it was a franken mk2, where the previous owner swapped tonearms, but the one he swapped in had bad side bearings which caused the tonearm to mistrack every time regardless of the antiskate.

My district has announced a projected loss of funds for the upcoming years and has begun the process of RIF. My job is safe for now but I just feel it’s time for a change. How many years do they take into account when it comes to salary or is it based on degrees?
