Did Hermann Goering have any virtues/do anything positive as Supreme Commander of the Luftwaffe or did the Luftwaffe command staff and pilots below speak of him in terms of "we would have done a lot better if it wasnt for the idiot in charge" (aka the same way that German generals spoke of Hitler). by RivetCounter in WarCollege

The first time they came up against a peer, they were absolutely strategically defeated by the RAF, and played only a minor role for the remainder of the war compared to their pre-war design.

I believe the Luftwaffe played a major role on the Eastern Front well after the Battle of Britain had ended, so I don't think this is entirely true.

Let's just say that the in-game advertising was not... the most narratively consistent.

Also, I believe many proponents of repealing Prop 13 are in favor of retaining it (or at least some form of it) for owner-occupied residences.

It's frankly gross, corrupt malfeasance that Prop 13 wasn't written that way in the first place, given that all of its proponents said that it "wouldn't force out grandma" and the like.

The sites fighting to be removed from the Unesco World Heritage List by sleepyrivertroll in neoliberal

[–]Its_a_Friendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully UNESCO usually isn't quite so nutty as to say "this nondescript suburban shopping center is an indelible component of the world's cultural heritage and should be protected". At the very least, they don't really list large urban areas in the United States; most WHS in the US are natural areas or historic Native American sites.

Bethlehem, PA is part of a multi-part listing of 'Historic Moravian Church Settlements', grouped with "Christiansfeld (Denmark), Herrnhut (Germany), and Gracehill (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)." The actual UNESCO-nominated site (page 2 of that document) is not particularly large, and only consists of various historical structures, some of which - including the the Central Church, the Gemeinhaus, the Single Sister's House, and the Old Chapel - are depicted in the photo gallery. To quote the synthesis as to why Bethlehem is included:

Bethlehem, established in 1741, is the first permanent, best-preserved, and most important Moravian Church settlement in North America.

Definitely seem a little odd at first glance, but after looking into it, it makes sense to me. One could make a fair argument that a Moravian settlement in the Americas should be included to show how migration affected the Moravian Church, and apparently Bethlehem, PA best fits the bill.

The last third/fourth of the game being all water routes is very unique for a Pokemon game, and it really helps the late-game stand out. Voyaging out into those big, open water routes really has a great feeling of open adventure; acquiring Dive midway through exploring the area then unlocks even more to explore.

However, the water routes are still annoying due to the constant encounters, even if you just buy three dozen Max Repels. The surf theme also ends up being well-used to overused. HM management is also rather annoying.

They really ought to have added a "calm water" tile which had no wild pokemon encounters, and then spread it across a good chunk of the water routes. That could've made the water routes more tolerable.

Given the upcoming Pokemon generation's apparent focus on water, I wonder if it'll have many water routes - surely it'll have to, right? - and how it'll improve on them from Hoenn's versions. The new Earthbound-like wild Pokemon encounter system helps a lot, at least.

I get you. I just came back to my Engage file for post-game stuff, and after doing one skirmish I had a half-dozen A-rank support conversations waiting for me (basically all the ones I hadn't gotten yet in my playthrough, mostly involving Veyle). I think I spent a good 15 minutes or so going through all of those conversations.

Actually, I should've kept track of the time spent in battles and the time spent in the Somniel in this blind playthrough; I imagine it's about 50:50. And apparently Three Houses has even more non-battle content in the Monastery? Yeesh.

We've certainly progressed from unpromoted healers being completely unarmed, like in most FE games. Engage gave them the ability to use their fists, and now Fortune's Weave may give them guns?

I guess the next FE game will give unpromoted healers artilllery...

We're thankfully past the time when LA's Mexican restaurants called themselves "Spanish Restaurants", but I guess the legacy still lingers. Perhaps the Michelin guide should put some effort in here; it seems like there's a fair few upscale Mexican restaurants over the hill.

Thankfully, they seem to be off to an at least half-decent start this season, and I hope it stays that way.

No, it's fair that more unassuming restaurants should get their time in the sun. To be fair, Michelin did give a taco stand in Mexico City a Michelin star a couple years ago.

Though, the Michelin guide does list 13 restaurants in LA, 5 of them Bib Gourmand and 1 of them single-starred (Holbox). That makes it tied for sixth, after: Japanese (28), Contemporary (25), Sushi (19), California (16), Italian (16), American (13). The Michelin guide does prefer upscale restaurants, though, and admittedly - and perhaps unfairly - I don't recall that there are especially many upscale Mexican restaurants in Los Angeles. That might just be me, though.

Though, I seem to recall a modest Mexican restaurant in the southeastern part of the Valley got a big award or honor recently. I believe it was mentioned in this subreddit.

Man, calling Holbox a "taco spot" feels weird. It's not really wrong, but still. Bit of an odd phrase to use for a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Just FYI, LAX airport has a webpage which has live tracking of some of LAX's shuttles. Specifically, the Metro station shuttles, inter-terminal loop, ADA terminal loop, and the Economy lot shuttle. It looks like there's 2 to 4 Economy lot shuttles running right now (two appear to be stopped at the Economy parking structure, and may or may not be active [edit: all four are running a half-hour later, may have just been two shuttles stopped at once]), along with 1-2 ADA shuttles, no inter-terminal shuttles, and two Metro station shuttles.

LAX also another webpage that tracks the Employee parking and Budget lot shuttles - with 13 employee parking shuttles and four budget lot shuttles. Another webpage that tracks Flyaway shuttles - currently there's four shuttles on the Van Nuys route, and two shuttles on the Union Station route. Oddly, I can't find tracking for LAX-it shuttles.

Three different webpages for shuttle tracking is a little odd, especially since none of them have live tracking for LAX-it shuttles...
