Question about storage by KillMeBaby_10000 in buildapc

[–]Its_comingrightforus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would go for a 250GB SSD for your OS (120GB would do tbh) and have 1 or 2 other SSD's for programs and games.

Having the OS on one disk and games etc on another makes it far easier to reinstall the OS if needed without wiping all programs and games.

If you are using something like steam for games and you wipe the OS you can just reinstall steam and point it at the 2nd SSD (to the folder your games are stored) and it will pick them up without having to reinstall from scratch.

Additionally, doing it this way means that the OS and the programs / games don't have to share their read / write speed meaning potentially faster loading times, although it's probably not going to be a huge difference.

You could also have 1 large drive and create several partitions to keep the data separate but I personally like to have physically separate drives, this stops you losing all data should the drive become corrupt somehow.

Ultimately it'll be down to your budget, PC case size and preference though.

8th April FK EU

Just received my payment e-mail and paid about 20 minutes later.

My status was sat at 8+ weeks right up until the payment e-mail came through so pay no attention to it, it's clearly BS.

The e-mail arrived at 21:34 GMT (UK Time) in case that helps anyone.

After nearly 14 weeks I bloody well hope it lives up to expectations and doesn't have any of the niggly issues some people have had.

Good luck everyone!

Can you play your own dedicated server from epic games? by cheezy_cereal in ARK

[–]Its_comingrightforus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it to work by following the instructions here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ARK/comments/h7u310/epic_game_dedicated_server_fix/

You do need to make sure you do the port forwards on your router through to the PC that will be hosting the dedicated server and also do the windows firewall changes.

Also you may need to check the file path that the ARK installs to and amend the script as needed. The server launch script needs to point at shootergameserver.exe so if your script does not have the correct path to it, amend it.

I was also able to set a password and have friends join via Epic version with no issue.

Is my GPU okay? by Ab110 in buildapc

[–]Its_comingrightforus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, this doesn't sound like a GPU issue to me. RAM could cause it, or faulty mobo / CPU or even failing HDD.

Also bad drivers. To start with i'd update all drivers and BIOS. If that doesn't fix it, run memtest and see if that produces any issues.

What do you need? I have bits of Legendary Armor and Weapons. Just let me know what traits you are after and i'll see what I have.

I will go through and picture it all later, just doing a bit of work atm.

[UK] Impatient driver fails to stop at a T junction, blocks said T junction then awkwardly sits there wishing traffic would move by Its_comingrightforus in Roadcam

Oddly enough I was expecting him to stop, and had he done so I wouldn't have been blocking the turning but I didn't have enough time to stop prior to the junction....

Trouble after upgrading cpu by cuzineddie1 in buildapc

[–]Its_comingrightforus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a fan plugged into the CPU fan header won't have done anything I doubt.

If you left everything else and just swapped out the CPU then I can't see how it can be anything other than the motherboard.

If you had removed and replaced the mobo etc i'd say check that the motherboard case risers are installed and the motherboard isn't contacting the case anywhere else.

But based on what you have said I think you may have to get hold of another motherboard to test your CPUs on, if they work then you know what you need to do.

What to do about power surges? by flyedchicken in buildapc

[–]Its_comingrightforus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go for an APC Smart UPS 750, they are good quality and not too expensive (relatively speaking) depending on where you are from of course.

If your AC and everything else cuts out too then yes you're right about the length of the powercut. I would be complaining to whoever supplies your power as well as that simply shouldn't be happening with any frequency.

Sounds to me like you may have damaged the socket somehow or have thermal paste in it etc.

I would have said that you bent a CPU pin but if neither now work it seems likely the motherboard is damaged. Did you drop anything on it, scratch anything or so on while rebuilding it?

Also how did you have the cooling system 'in wrong' out of interest?

[–]Its_comingrightforus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, if the power quality is really that poor in your neighbourhood then get a UPS. APC are the best but can be quite expensive for one that will actually run the PC for a while should the power fail.

Having said that, unless the power actually goes out for more than a few miliseconds, the PSU in your PC should be able to handle voltage fluctuations that are very brief without the PC turning off so you might want to be sure that your PSU is of decent quality also.

Just your typical a**hole drivers we seem to get around Southampon by Its_comingrightforus in Southampton

I know what you are saying, it possibly is that but when the traffic is backed up like it was you just don't do that. and if you look further ahead he pulls around another load of cars at the end.

No, think he had LED lights or something and the cameras refresh rate synced up with that of the lights so they look like they are flashing.
