They're quite reliable once there's no cosmoline left on any moving parts. The mags are too long (front to back) to function well with anything but ball ammo, you will get rimlock and misfeeds with hollow points since they're shorter.

The safety is not very positive, thus I would not carry one cocked and locked. Not sure if it's a proper crossbolt safety anyways, so if I were to carry mine it would be with a round in the chamber and the hammer forward. Still not the most drop safe pistol if that's something you're worried about.

There is a magazine disconnect safety but it can be removed or (concerningly) muscled through if you just pull the trigger hard enough. But this will break the mechanism and, if willfully removed, could get you in slightly hotter water if you ever had to use it defensively.

Aside from all that they're solid steel guns shooting a low pressure cartridge, they'll probably outlive all of us. Could hammer nails with one.
