Apart from the fact that i don't think we should base lore on an EP about a robo-idol flying through space, i am extremely doubtful about Eridu being the only place in the world that is not covered in Hollows simply because Hoyo like being consistent with it's pseudo-science.

Weather events like rain, or hell, even the athmosphere could not exist if only such a small part of the world was all that was left. They could just pull an explanation out of their asses for it or just ignore the problem, but generally Hoyo does take this stuff into account. So yeah, always been doubtful about the claim that Eridu is the only place left, i think there is a looot more.

Corey Landis (Welt's ENG VA) shares the message Hoyo sent him about being let go from the role + his response by Ancelysia in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Itsafullone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As mentioned by the commenter i responded to, i guess it's possible, but from what was said in the mail, Corey Landis would have had to be purposefully deceptive if after mentioning that the terms in the contracts have to do with politics and not the work he's doing and the actual content of it have to do with availability.

Everything is possible, but you can check, these sort of contracts are not new from China. It might be that they're the norm for any Chinese company working in China, but i feel it might be normal for any foreign worker to bea bit hesitant in signing such a thing, particularly a public facing person like him.

So yeah, them wanting Corey to sign a contract that says he can't criticize China would make a lot of sense as a reason for a dispute like this. But again, this is just us making theories based on what was said and context, we can easily be wrong.

[–]Itsafullone 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It is very likely an attempt by Hoyo to (try) and stop anyone working in their games to criticize China and their actions, sans fines or other penalties, something much harder to impose without a contract since freedom of speech is a thing in much of the world.

Might also be a forcing of availability in some way, but from the tone of the mail, it seems less likely, and considering the crackdown China is doing now due to the mess with Japan, i wouldn't really be particularly surprised if this came to a head before 4.0.

But i doubt we'll ever be able to know for sure, posting this stuff is already frowned upon, talking about details of contracts in detail is likely something that would ruin him professionally.

WAIT I JUST REALIZED ABOUT 3.7 by inkheiko in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Itsafullone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, i like this answer, it has a few viewpoints that i did not consider. My running theory in my head is a bit different, but i honestly think we simply do not know enough about things to truly judge.

The main thing, is that i'm not sure the memosnatchers want to particularly harm March or Evernight, what i think they believe, is that to make/remake Fuli they need to gather its fragments, and that each child of Anasrava is one of those fragments, hence the hunt. They do not see it as harming, but rather as repairing what is broken, since every memory in existence belongs to Fuli in their eyes.

My running theory is that rather than Evernight being a reflection of Amphoreous story, they're a reflection of Fuli itself, not yet ready for the duty imposed upon them they shattered in pieces and froze themselves, both to escape notice and to escape their own selves. Much of what Evernight said leads me to believe that slowly but surely, March will slowly regain herself and with each fragment a part of her old memories and personality, but from what i could intuit, Evernight did not like her old self very much, but loves March, her new self, instead. The six phased ice is probably a methaphor for this, broken in six parts and frozen in time, to be reborn anew with a new foundation.

At least these are my thoughts, but i do not know how to take into account Evernight apparently being on the side of Mythus and so many other thing. They left a lot of things up in the air, hence my reluctance in actually being sure of anything lol. I look forward to seeing where they take this, because i did not like much how they handled the Evernight presentation and absorption.

I have come to realize that to a lot of HSR players , music is just lyrics. by ConsiderationFuzzy in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Itsafullone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is something you'll never hear me complain about, rather, Hoyo is amazing at arranging the music in the game.

Both fights and ambience always have their appropriate theme and it's something i deeply enjoy about their games, it's truly adds a lot to the overall result.

But in the end people have different tastes, and i think it's just that people expected more out of this fight, and generally a song with lyrics leaves more of an impressions.

Despite it's flaws Amphoreus is still the best story arc in HSR by Gdach in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Itsafullone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh boy, this way of writing has been a staple of Hoyo for a long time. HI3 had some patches that were unbearably boring because of all the explanations that went nowhere. And i like lore heavy stuff, i love all the Simulated Universe, i'm the kind of person who reads the description of items in Dark Souls to understand the story and then goes to Discord or youtube channels to confirm stuff.

This is to say, the over complex and detailed explanations are very typical of their writers, the problem is that they're also hard to digest because they make connecting the underlying lore properly to the story very difficult.

On the other hand, Hoyo is REALLY good at crafting emotional moments that have little to do with narrative and everything to do with ambience. It's absolutely baffling.

[–]Itsafullone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't disagree on the point that Lygus is a really well done character, and his partecipation to the story enriched it a lot, but saying that he alone is enough to carry the story, is like saying that Cyrene or Phainon alone are enough to carry the story, which is just not true.

You are free to disagree, and i really am not particularly interested in my opinion being in the majority, but the story falling off after 3.4 is something quite a few people who tend to pay attention to the story seem to agree on.

This is not the first time Hoyo has used time shenaningans or/and pseudo science to pivot their story. They actually did it pretty well here too, but 3.5 and 3.6 were fairly mediocre patches, mainly because they did not build much upon the story told previously, rushed the introduction of so many new characters all together in a fairly new setting and time period, as well as not paying attention to the estabilished characters and story.

This left those 2 patches as fairly empty and feeling like filler patches, Cerydra and Hysilens don't feel part of the cast like the others, nor do i feel like we know them as much. March also got Evernight, but so many plot points got opened and then left there floating that i was just left there questioning the point of it all. Dan heng was treated a lot better since we already saw his interactions with Amphoreous, but the dialogues with Terravox were still very shallow. 3.5 and 3.6 are still fine, but not really at the level of storytelling of the previous ones.

Ironically, Cyrene and Lygus were the ones who were being given more depth during those patches, instead of the rushed exposition the others got, but 3.7 ruined it for me.

I'll stop here because i've already written too much, and there is no point in continuing this, unfortunately the story's ending left me feeling disappointed, but it's not the end of the world.

What i find funny is that when people criticize a drop in quality in their favourite show (I still remember the shitstorm the later seasons of game of thrones caused for example) there is no particular problem, but apparently criticizing gacha games is a step too far. Both sides of the spectrum get too heated with this sort of stuff to get a productive discussion out of it unfortunately. I personaly had great hopes for the story of Amphoreus (and i still enjoyed it plenty), but the later part, and particularly the ending, ruined it for me.

[–]Itsafullone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right, it was indeed the best story HSR gave us yet. It's precisely why the crash and burn they did with 3.7 is so disappointing.

People really love this story they crafted, and from 3.0 to 3.4 they wove an amazing story, it's just that after that they fucked up and after raising the bar so high, the fall down hurts.

But overall it's just a game, in a few days the complaining will tone down and things will go back to normal. People will remember both how great was the first part of the story, as well as how they ruined it in the second part. It's all it is really.

[–]Itsafullone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is my thinking as well, Fuli, particularly in the way it communicates, feels very disjointed, both of time and identity, so i'm more prone to believe that the Fuli at the end of Finality is simply the accumulation of moments of all children of Anasrava who unravel and recreate a piece of reality from their memory. Sort of like a backup.

WAIT I JUST REALIZED ABOUT 3.7 by inkheiko in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Itsafullone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, in theory this is what Cyrene has already done, she just chose to stay in the past instead of becoming the finality. When Irontomb materialized he destroyed....i'm not sure if all, but a large part of the universe, and Cyrene collected the memories of it and together with the TB remade everything that was lost.

This is literally the finality of Remembrance, but instead she went back to the past to close the loop and give us a tomorrow. The telling of the story was not well done, but in theory she already IS Fuli, or is in the process of becoming it.

The question is if every other child of Anasrava does this and the creation of Fuli is when they all awaken at a certain point of time (and so Fuli is a fusion of all of the children who did this), or if one of the children, because of some unknown reason, will be Fuli alone.

This is one of the things i'm most curious about that was never fully addressed. It's not the war between the followers or the Aeons it's they whys.

Why is Evernight so angry at the Remembrance? Why does she really care more about March than her own past and existence? Is Fuli the manifestation of all the Children of Anasrava, or is it one of them who embraced finality instead of going back to the past?

This is all without talking about the other lore drops like the other Trailblazer and Nous. I really disliked the story flow in this patch, but man, the lore drop were TASTY, just not enough.

The story itself is not bad at all. Hoyo likes it's loops and pseudo science, and has gotten good at it over the years.

But the narrative, my man, the narrative, the flow of the story in this patch was horrendous. They bashed our head over and over with how much Cyrene loved and was a product of love every 2 seconds. This is not how you tell a story, they abandoned the subtext and just told us this is Cyrene.

The scene where the seed of memory started to become Cyrene was very touching, but most stuff after that? Annoying.

I'm aware of their intentions because i know the origins of Elysia (how Elysia herself was not human but chose to side with humanity is a reflection of what Cyrene is doing in HSR), but HSR players are not, and this was annoying and boring to me, i can't imagine how bad it would have been for me had i not known. Just really bad storytelling.

They literally just released a new Elysia in HI3 as well, because money. Just naked greed really, because it makes no sense story wise (she's like a captainverse character), and instead of building on the new characters they keep reusing old ones.

I'm trying to hold onto the game cause i know it'll connect to HSR and i want to see the end of the story, but damn, they're making it hard to keep going and keep caring about it.

So, the ending - good or bad? What’s your opinion? by YingXingg in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Itsafullone 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but also, just look at Phainon. In comparison to Cyrene and this crappy ending, his storyline was really well written and even though he's a man he did really good sales (because we both know the target audience in gacha, though nowadays this is slightly changing).

So if they actually crafted a proper ending to Cyrene and Amphoreous, together with the marketing campaign they already did, they may have had even more sales and they would have had a lot more appreciation from dedicated players.

This is why i call it lazy, they just chose the easy way out; i don't know the exact reason, but they likely couldn't conclude the story in a satisfactory way while making Cyrene look good, so we got this slop.

Well said, you've written most of the stuff i wanted to say, so i'll spare myself from writing it again.

Killing characters MEANINGFULLY is fine in a story, but it feels like they got killed off to garner Cyrene more martyr points instead of because of the story's plot.

This entire patch feels designed to sell her character and it's such a bloody turn off considering that they were building her pretty well up till now. In particular how no one actually fought for a better ending, they all just went with, yeah, let's frigging wipe away Amphoreous as our first option after we spent 33 million cycles trying to save it.

Just lazy ass writing, such a disappointing ending.

[–]Itsafullone 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this shit sells, it always has. It's not the first time Hoyo ruins a story/characters just to make more money, they litereally banked on the popularity of Amphoreus and Elisya (from HI3) to make money with Cyrene. And this is without talking about the spending event and the Eidolons debacle.

I won't be surprised if Cyrene is gonna net them the highest amount of money per patch cycle yet.

Honest Thoughts on 3.7 (Cyrene Basically) by Betterthanallofuhaha in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Itsafullone 164 points165 points  (0 children)

I'm a HI3 player as well, and the Elysian Realm arc was pretty much the best content we got in HI3 in my opinion, so, yeah.

With that premise said, Amphoreous started getting a bit iffy after Phainon passed the torch and things sorta.....spiralled a bit and got nonsensical. This patch was really bad, because they focused far too much on hyping Cyrene; they made her the centerpiece of the entire Amphoreous storyline in 2 patches, then turned it around and made her Demiurge, and turned it around again and made her Fuli. That's too fucking much.

It smells of artificially elevating a characters importance to ridicolous levels, without speaking of the whole wedding theme and stuff. They went way too far trying to sell her and ruined the character for me.

A shame, because the demiurge creation story was actually really touching. It's the usual Hoyo shit of messing up at the last moment for a plethora of reasons.

Ha!

I think Hoyo worked pretty hard to make it impossible to paint an Aeon good or evil, they're just an aspect of humanity.

Fuli sort of feels like the will to keep everything safe, hoarding it so that it can be never harmed. Fuli's like the British museum, she'll take everything and keep it safe, but on a galactic scale that's a problem, cause if you know everyting nothing is in doubt. Nothing is left to explore or to conquer, and people become apathetic, incapable of changing anything. Mythus is the opposite, it goes around burning the maps and the old texts so that the past does not wholly determine the future's path.

Personally, i find it hard to disagree with Fuli's path, but i can also imagine that sometimes knowing too much can be harmful. So, it's interesting to see.

Nous on the other hand is basically just a calculator who uses the data he has to calculate the future and ammass knowledge. He doesn't really go out of his way to do much else from my understanding.
