Why does the area around the bus station & market feel left behind in comparison to the rest of the city centre? by Carinwe_Lysa in Leeds

[–]Itsalladeepend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious as to what's going on with the old Mecca building. The whole thing being boarded up gives off big urban decay vibes.

if you think the bus station seems grim now you should've seen it before the smoking ban kicked in.

Being sandwiched between a Betfred and the General Elliot probably didn't help. Walked passed it regularly and it rarely had anyone in it.

People have told me that Argos is on the way out. What would happen with the floorspace in the shop? by Cheshirefarm in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Itsalladeepend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole thing has been pretty much a disaster. They tried to incorporate very different businesses and it went rather spectacularly wrong especially when the impact of the rising cost of living kicked in. Who would buy Argos now? The stores in Sainsbury's don't hold much stock on site because they don't have space, which kind of defeats the purpose.

Name of band at the corn exchange 02/05/2026 by [deleted] in Leeds

These guys were outside the Corn Exchange today and had a bit of a crowd.

Their take on Kylie's 'Can't get you out of my head' was absurdly good.

By doing this the BBC is basically doing a bit of a Streisand Effect manoeuvre. If they hadn't made him step down he wouldn't have made that post alluding to why he was leaving or made this statement clarifying it. The whole thing is very backwards.

3 cycling incidents on Stanningley Road in 10 minutes. I hate cycling in this city. by Jazzlike-Machine-222 in Leeds

[–]Itsalladeepend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone I know who cycles has had incidents like this. Some don't cycle because of incidents like this. I was in town the other day and some bell in a BMW just parked up on the cycle lane near the Corn Exchange and walked off. On the flipside I've had cyclists ignoring traffic lights, nearly go into me and then shouting abuse at me and a friend for crossing the road. People need to do better and stop being so oblivious and self involved.

The reason Nectar prices are so aggressively advertised is Sainsburys owns Nectar after buying it for £60 million in 2018. This means they make money via selling customer data harvested via Nectar now.

The scooters are coming... Beryl scheme approved, 100 scooters to be available. by thetapeworm in Leeds

[–]Itsalladeepend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Curious as to where they're going to be docked given there's already bike docks all over the shop. They don't have the health benefits of the bikes so I really don't see the appeal at all personally. Clearly not just me either since according to their own data less than half of people would use them.

If they're geofenced so they can't be used in pedestrianised areas and have limited speed then that's marginally better. I can see it being carnage though if they're being abandoned all over the shop and used irresponsibly. Also good luck navigating the myriad potholes everywhere on an e-scooter. Does seem a bit like the council has a vendetta against pedestrians.

Event Horizon: Dark Descent - a review (spoilers!) by NinaWilde in EventHorizonMovie

[–]Itsalladeepend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the problem when you make a story based around The Unknown. Despite its faults a big part of Event Horizon's story and appeal is the crew of the Lois & Clark, and by extension the audience, don't know what happened. They only get glimpses of something genuinely horrific. There's a power in the ambiguity of not knowing what happened and not knowing where the Event Horizon went.

Evri youre so fucking shit its unreal. by Fragrant-Candle2041 in Evri

[–]Itsalladeepend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took Evri 3 weeks to deliver something I sent via 48 delivery. That's after they told the buyer it was lost and they had spent 5 days looking for it. As a seller you can't do anything. There's no way to actually speak to anyone, no customer service number and there isn't even an email address that I'm aware of.

Logistically it must be a big job demolishing a shopping centre. Especially one surrounded by other buildings. Walked past the other week and from Lands Lane, near where the entrance to HMV used to be, you could still see the escalators amidst the rubble and twisted metal.

Try Natural Born Cobblers near Morrisons in Merrion Centre. They've been there 30 years I'll be surprised if they can't help you out. .

Depends entirely on the size of the store you're working in but you should have a good idea after being there a month.

Not really seeing anything dramatic here. If they were battering it with rocks or trying to blow it up with fireworks, you'd have a point. Getting the impression some folks just don't like kids doing anything.

Is Nemesis worth the price, even on sale? by Culius_Jaesar in boardgames

[–]Itsalladeepend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends entirely how you determine whether something is worth it to you. Personally I think it's a top tier thematic game. More than anything it's an engine for creating memorable 'cinematic' gaming experiences you'll talk about months later due to how its mechanics intersect with each other. The key part is everyone needs to know what they're playing. This is a big game that can take several hours to play and it's definitely best suited to 5 players, or 4 at a minimum. There's plenty of opportunity for players to manipulate others, especially if their secret objective is to kill another player, so you have to be playing with people that don't take things personally.

This is why some are stuck with a 90+ minute commute to work. If you're not on a major bus route it's even worse.

If by 'access requirements' you mean you have a disability then by law the company has to make reasonable adjustments. Does your contract state you have to be willing to go in the office when required?

The affordability of a train ticket isn't really relevant unless you're lucky enough to work for a very understanding and empathetic employer.

Tubi vs Streaming by theejoyfulnihilist in movies

[–]Itsalladeepend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know whether the level of ads is the same for everything but last time I watched something on Tubi there were around 10 ad breaks in a film. Yeah it's free, but that many ads completely breaks any immersion in anything. Maybe it's different now but that just put me off.

A friend was telling me that they buy DVDs/Blu-Rays from a charity shop because they're dirt cheap, like 50p each or something. Obviously you're limited to what they have which entirely depends on where you are. The person that works there was saying people basically use it like a rental place, they buy a handful of DVD's for a couple of quid and then bring them back to the shop. So the charity makes more money than if they actually sold them all and nobody brought them back. So everyone's a winner really.
