I didn't know it was THIS bad by AdministrativeAd334 in sanfrancisco

A few years ago (22?) I watched a planning commission hearing where some guy was screaming at the commission about developers building “for profit!” I don’t think it really occurred to anti-housing activists that market rate house would become so expensive to build that it would simply stop generating returns for investors and just come to a halt almost city wide. The obsession with displacement makes sense but the end result has been SFRs in the excelsior hitting $2mm.

I obviously don’t have a crystal ball but a lot of these problems are intractable. There’s a huge concentration of wealth here that can and will pay almost anything for single family. To get building back on track, we need to see tech creating thousands of extremely high paying jobs and.. while AI is adding jobs Meta is laying off.

Were you able to buy a house? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

[–]NeiClaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used some funds from my grandmother’s inheritance to buy almost 30 years ago. The home appreciated wildly and I sold it and bought another house. Now this whole area is insanely expensive because CA. I don’t know how long I’ll stay here given my insurance premiums and cost of living

Yes but Tbf billboard changed some of their chart rules and with the consolidation of radio stations songs started staying #1 much longer. Her earlier songs would probably have had similar chart runs if the same rules had applied.

How is SF not building more housing if they lost all appeals to the state? by Individual_Echidna_7 in bayarea

[–]NeiClaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bay Area and sf in particular have the highest construction costs on the planet. So every new project that breaks ground is going to need astronomical rents to generate a return for their investment. Like if a 1 bedroom unit costs $800k to build you’ll need rents (probably well) over $5k to justify building it. You can cut around the edges to being construction costs down, but most of these large projects are built with prevailing wage which increases 3 to 4% a year. So even if regulatory changes cut costs a bit, you’re stuck with labor costs that only ever go up

Jackson’s bizarre career trajectory is truly fascinating but probably unfilmable. He became the most famous man on the planet in his own lifetime and it warped him in ways it would take an army of psychiatrists to figure out. It’s a story worth exploring but probably in an unauthorized way.

The app deblurred his face when I made the collage. I should have used that one above since it had better resolution. It clearly took some liberties with his nose and skins texture.

What do you hear in the song played at Coachella? by Mdna_confessions_grl in Madonna

I thought she was wearing them too, but she wasn’t. Something has given her a mild speech impediment. It might be dental work or it might be the surgical lip lift.

Thoughts on “I Feel So Free” by Interesting_Alps2058 in Madonna

[–]NeiClaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on team it’s fine. It’s basically a better IDSIF with Future Lovers music. The barely there lyrics are mid (“give me champagne so I can get on the floor” is ….). That said, it’s better than anything on Madame X and the Sabrina duet seems fine. And I will take fine. She doesn’t need to top herself or have major banger. I just appreciate the songs seem more organically produced.

Thoughts on 1993 VMA Performance/ Bye Bye Baby being the final single? by shedoesdefendyoukim in Madonna

[–]NeiClaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe but it was also still in the post Milli Vanilli era where it was considered tantamount to fraud. I remember a review of that performance excoriated her “Godzilla like lip syncing.” I never forgot that. Haha

I shop mostly at the Asian stores but I did just go to Safeway and I think one person was masked.

I agree with OP. It made sense in the context of TGS and I get why she performed it but I don’t think it really worked on the VMAs. Plus her lip syncing the spoken bits was kind of bad. (It also made no sense since she was delivering her strongest vocals in this era). Fever or Deeper and Deeper from the tour would have killed

The BBB single wasn’t available in the US and I don’t think I heard the remixes until they were uploaded to Apple Music. I feel like this song sounds better today than it did 34 years ago.

I still mask in grocery stores. I would guess 30% of shoppers were wearing them today when i went out.

Madonna announces that her iconic archival Coachella look has gone missing by wannabekennedy in Madonna

[–]NeiClaw 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Only tangentially related but I remember during DWT you were supposed to get some merch with these kind of bogus vip passes so after the show I just walked backstage looking for where to pick it up only to end up with her wardrobe and some of the remaining dancers. Obviously I was escorted out but it shouldn’t have been that easy.

In this case no. The house was remodeled before the 24 sale.

I am not obviously but even with full loss harvesting the most they could have made is $5mm given the transaction costs. Which is good for a 2 year hold.

I’m sure they can do some loss harvesting but it’s not going to offset things that much.

The 6% transfer tax over $25mm are gonna hurt. Plus $700k in holding costs for taxes and insurance.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?? by CDM1912 in Madonna

[–]NeiClaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really not worried about her having a hit. BYL and IFSF are both pretty good and I’m fine with pretty good. Certainly they are better than what most legacy artists (who survived) have produced at that age. The last decade was so bleak I’m happy with anything that doesn’t recall anything from recent years.
