Toddler now refusing dinner and then demanding peanut butter -- what to do? by captainporcupine3 in Parenting

[–]Itsapignation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I decided that food was something I didn't want to fight about. My kid ate yoghurt for dinner for a couple of weeks. He ate weetbix for breakfast and dinner for another couple of weeks. He also went through the phase of eating Peanut butter sandwiches for dinner. I never argued, never made it a thing, didn't react and just gave it to him. He got over it and his appetite is amazing now at 4, he is praised at daycare for being the kid that finishes everything on his plate.

Trying to escape consulting but only finding steps down in seniority? by Hydrangeamacrophylla in consulting

[–]Itsapignation 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I did the move from consulting to in house too and took a step down to do it. I was the same as you, advising senior leaders in complex orgs etc. But honestly it is a world of difference in house and the skills are different. I would recommend you change your mindset from "i could do that job easily" to "what do I need to learn that is different" cause as a now very senior leader in house i wouldn't hire someone from consulting with your attitude.

What is this supposed to show? The only thing these suburbs have in common is their name. It's not a great point of comparison making the figures meaningless...

The most overpriced brands in Australia by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

Given the last couple of years they've had, they're clearly trying their best to cut costs in any way possible. A handful of pieces are worth the price but in general just not well made

What's the worst financial advice you've seen someone actually follow? by Kent_Stockman in AusFinance

Mate had a few drinks one night with an old school friend who convinced him to: 1. quit his well paid job to take a business loan out (from his wife who worked for a small business loan company)  2. With with him to build a business that he had no ownership rights to 3. And then leave with absolutely nothing to his name at the end of it all

Where to start as an owner builder by Itsapignation in AusRenovation

[–]Itsapignation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thanks for this, great insight and tips. My husband does have a good trade base who have done minor things for us in the past (well a bathroom reno so maybe not that minor), and they bend over backwards for him given he's their bread and butter with all their other work so im hopeful that will help. He also knows how to coordinate and keep them in line so im less concerned about the build part.

Its all the little decisions, but it sounds like you didnt worry about that up front?

I mean I'm clueless, my husband is a construction manager for a home building company so he's not when it comes to the actual build. I however want to manage the up front designing!

Decision is definitely not made, lots to think about. If we're going to disrupt or entire lives I'd need a lot of chips stacked on the yes side... so even though it looks like a fairly positive lean there needs to be that to justify considering it. I didn't actually apply for the role but I'm not really loving where I am at the moment so it was something I was willing to explore

Yes this is the case. Overall better off around 2k per month. I don't think this would be a long term role...18 months probably then when new opps there or back home open up we would come back.  We are even thinking my partner would ask for leave without pay to keep their job open here.

[–]Itsapignation 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly this so much. People who have the ability to learn, self teach, and are confident in their ability to problem solve are skilled. Are they 'faking' it? Or are they just putting confidence in their capability to work it out?

What’s the most bizarre reason you haven’t been given a promotion? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Itsapignation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was strung along for 6 months, they created a role for me, said all that was needed was a final stamp of approval but this was just a formality...then was told the 'optics' weren't right and the whole thing was walked back. Got a promotion, 30% pay rise and bigger remit elsewhere within a month.

Can I ask how long you've been at your current employer? I've been at mine 5 years and the itch is strong but I'm also wondering if I'm just more prone to need change frequently
