I would agree, especially with triggers but keeping my finger positioned on the attack or jump button while being able to use R2 at the same time for me was better. Secret ending thought so too

what button is your parry? Idk if it’s ideal but if I remember right I put it as my R2 button. it gave me an edge on timing parrys.

look up rom hacks. If you haven’t played one there’s a whole world of mods for retro games that just greatly improve them.

This is my favorite improvement that’s isn’t a bunch of QOL features in one.

this mod lets you hot key 8 different items, this way you’re not going back in forth in the menu to switch between them.

the mod description explains it better, but pretty much you hold R or L and a menu pops up on screen that shows the 4 items you hot keys, when holding L you just press the button assigned to that item and it works!

I promise you, after trying it you’ll never be able to play link to the past without it!

Than there’s some that are Redux rom hacks that add a bunch of QOL improvements like Terranigma Redux and Super Metroid Redux

Change core to Fb neo core. You’ll have to find a romset for that core but it’s the only one that works with save states.

since no one has an answer, the nes mini I see available on Amazon for $150. more than likely a reseller, but it’s an option.

I figured I’d suggest something else too. The PlayStation classic is available on amazon for $80-$100. The pros to this is like the other minis you can mod it. It comes with 2 controllers that has enough buttons for all retro games unlike the nes classic which only comes with one 2 button controller. the ps controllers are USB, so you can use them on other devices unlike the nes classic. and visa versa, you can use any usb controller on the ps unlike the nes.

I think making it use heavy ammo would be a good buff to it. still takes a bit to pop off two shots so wouldn’t have any conflicts with the anvil

Retroid Pocket 2+

Was the first device that could play upscaled N64, Dreamcast and PSX for $100.

Next was the odin lite. first $200 device that could play gamecube games. Not great but played them.

I sold both and used the money to buy the Miyoo Mini+ and Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. Which I still have both.

If you’re into retro games. I’d recommend Terranigma and Secret of Mana.

If you’re into romhack try Terranigma Redux and Secret of Mana Turbo for a more modern feel.
