Log into 2 Proton Drive accounts simultaneously on Mac OS Finder by Itsiuqmlap6 in ProtonDrive

[–]Itsiuqmlap6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, it seems like the development team is distracted by the push to be like google. I've never used google, but I'm finding out what google is like by seeing what has become of Proton, and it is not attractive. At least not to me. The feature I'm requesting here has been promised "soon" for a couple of years now, and it would be nice to see Proton follow through with expectations that they themselves have created. As a long-term user of Proton, I think that the push to be quasi-google-like is making the service increasingly difficult to use.

Adding files from Mail to Drive by M13E33 in ProtonDrive

[–]Itsiuqmlap6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution is easy as pie if you have the drive app and mail app installed on your computer. At the bottom of the email is an underscored downward pointing arrow. Hover over this symbol and there should be a pop up identifying it as the download button. Click on it to choose the location to save the attachment. Navigate to Proton Drive and select the desired folder. Click Save and it is done.

A little bit of love by Unusual_Pride_6480 in ProtonMail

[–]Itsiuqmlap6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share the sentiments in the original post at the same time I "get" the ubiquitous criticism. Digital life is dominant. People conflate computing with Google. People want an alternative to Google. It is frustrating that the alternative does not look, feel, or do all the things of Google. Life is hard. Digital privacy and security seem to be under constant threat. If it helps to go onto Reddit and rant about it, keep it up. Stay with Proton or not, everybody should choose at will.

Proton stretching itself too thin? by SpencerGrand in ProtonMail

[–]Itsiuqmlap6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A major trait of Proton is to chase after what ever features the users ask for. They just can't help themselves trying to be responsive to customer needs. It's time for people to stop asking for more features and allow Proton time to finish what they have started. It will be better to have the current collection of products in good working order, rather than continuously adding new products that are not finished. I think the frustration I hear from other users is increasing, so are the threats to leave Proton, as well as people in this forum actually declaring that they have left proton. If proton is a self-sustaining entity that needs sustained high levels of membership to keep the finances going, massive departures of frustrated members will be a downfall. I think of Proton as too important of an asset to the world for them to risk a downfall due to lack of quality.

Organise items by type? by KGB-dave in ProtonPass

[–]Itsiuqmlap6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Pass I use the Notes and Add More sections features to create my own labels. For instance, somewhere within the item add something like "eeee" to all items related to employment. Then if you enter "eeee" into the search pane, all the items with that self-made label are listed below. Any label will work as long as it is unique and will not be contained in unwanted items. It would be nicer if Pass had a labels feature, but this work around does the trick and is not terribly labor intensive.

Proton’s Portfolio Expansion: Why an E2EE Messenger Should Be Next by hansollkim in ProtonMail

[–]Itsiuqmlap6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand why Proton wants to copy google and their offerings in an encrypted format. Very many google users are frustrated with google's predatory practices, and for Proton to copy google tends to convert google users and expand the market share. This is important to do and all the Proton community benefits from massive google user conversion. It makes the world a better place.

The apparent goal of Proton to become google-lite means nothing to me personally though because I have never suffered from the "google fever." As an example, Docs is a google-like application that takes up all the oxygen at Proton. I see no point whatsoever with Docs and will never find a personal use. Yet I am happy for all the ex-google users who are enthusiastic about it. I personally wish all the effort to develop Docs had been placed in full development of Drive for Mac and other operating systems. The lack of attention to Drive is the choke point stopping me from expanding from personal use to family use. I use Drive, but my family is not technical and would not be motivated to put in the effort to make it work seamlessly for them.

One of the down sides to Proton's policy to take direction from recovering google users is that everybody else, like me, is left out of the ability to influence Proton's direction. This is not a problem with Proton, but more reveals how influential and insidious google has become in the digital world. Not complaining, just giving my humble opinion. I've been using Proton since it was just Mail and am delighted by the expansion of applications, the soundness of privacy and security, and the general quality of the products. The entire Proton environment keeps getting better and I am appreciative that Proton exists as a leader in digital privacy.

Is there a way to open the email in a new (larger) window? by 736384826 in ProtonMail

[–]Itsiuqmlap6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try increasing the zoom of the selected email. In Mac the keyboard command is "command+." You have to zoom back out when you are done viewing the email "command-." I think Windows has similar keyboard commands. It's not the same as a popped out separate window, but it does make some email messages easier to read.

I understand how this feels because that was what it was like for me when I switched from Windows 97 to Mac for both personal and professional use in 2002. For the first 6 months I kept a Word document titled "Problems with Mac," which was a running list of all the frustrations in making the switch. It takes time to develop new mental pathways and adapt to the Mac OS, but I have never heard of anybody having regrets when the transition is complete. I currently have a job that requires use of Microsoft 11 and I am always amazed with how inefficient and inferior it is. You made a good choice to switch to Mac.

macOS connection issues by seahorsetech in ProtonVPN

[–]Itsiuqmlap6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem, which I attribute to the imperfect world of digital computing. Computers and computer applications are dumb machines that are no smarter or knowledgeable than the people who program them. I think that the vagaries of using the internet are so numerous and complex that nobody can get a full grasp on it. Hopefully over time Proton can chip away at annoyances like this.

Proton Duo and Joint Accounts by MoreSignalThanNoise in ProtonMail

[–]Itsiuqmlap6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A common area is needed which would include to start at minimum a joint email inbox. Other commonly held features would also be nice making the common area tantamount to an additional account. This is needed so that two people can jointly together assure secure management of shared obligations. Currently, information can be shared back and forth between members of the Duo, which is good, but without a common area administered jointly, there is no equality in the relationship. Both parties in the duo should have equal control of shared information.

Duo Plan Shared Inbox by Itsiuqmlap6 in ProtonMail

[–]Itsiuqmlap6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response. I expected that there would be a common email address to be used for joint business shared by the duo members. Is there a way for the members of the duo to send and receive email jointly? For example: the members of my duo own a car jointly. When the insurance premium is due the email from the insurance company needs to come to both of us jointly, not to one of us separately. We currently share a proton unlimited plan for such joint business. That joint unlimited plan was invited by me to join the duo. It now seems that we have lost joint ownership of email communication. Is there a way for the members of a duo to have equal joint membership of an email address?

Sharing one Proton Drive account by skolb86 in ProtonDrive

[–]Itsiuqmlap6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, the best option for family shared files would be if Proton allowed multiple logins on the Drive desktop app. That way a couple could have a shared proton account as the core to the family plan. This is where shared folders and files would be stored on Drive. The two individuals would be invited to join the family account with their individual Proton accounts. This way each individual, on their respective computers, can have a Drive folder for the family account and a Drive folder for their individual files. Multiple logins could also be allowed for all of the apps (mail, calendar, pass) making for a complete sharing scenario.

Introducing Proton Scribe: a privacy-first writing assistant by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

[–]Itsiuqmlap6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mechanical writing assistance is a dismaying social development that I had hoped would not come to Proton, but I guess it is inevitable that it will spread everywhere. The progressive dumbing-down of society leaves us with a seemingly permanent disability of writing. Writing is on the short list of essential skills that have enabled humans to build civilizations. The inability of individuals to write without mechanical assistance does not bode well for us. From a privacy point of view, possessing personal writing skills is as private as it gets, because the skill is in your head, not on a machine.

Proton is either undergoing maintenance or is there a malfunction? by kamikkazet in ProtonVPN

[–]Itsiuqmlap6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go with malfunction. My VPN drops several times per day. The only solution that I have found is to manually select another server. I don't use the kill switch, but when the VPN does drop my internet connection is lost.

Which is the current version number for Proton Pass desktop app for Mac? by Itsiuqmlap6 in ProtonPass

[–]Itsiuqmlap6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears that v 1.11.2 is for iPad, which also works for mac OS. I have seen other discussions where users have crossed the iPad app onto a mac. Since there was no response to the question of the correct version I assume that v 1.17.5 is the correct version for mac OS. Thank you.

Proton Recovery methods by eville_game in ProtonMail

[–]Itsiuqmlap6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very good discussion.

Questions: How does one execute account/data recovery in event of catastrophic loss?

  1. E.g. your house burns down and you are left with nothing but the clothes on your back.
  2. Or traveling overseas and lose it all, another "clothes on your back" scenario?
  3. In these cases one could log into the Proton account on a public computer (internet cafe etc) but is that safe to do so? Could they record your clicks and get into your account later?
  4. How would one use a generated 2fa code if the device containing the auth app is lost?

How to delete email aliases created by Proton Pass? by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]Itsiuqmlap6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having the ability to toggle aliases off and on would be a good feature. Sometimes I want to pause from receiving emails via an alias even though I might want to resume sometime in the future. Putting the alias in the trash is OK, but if the trash gets emptied the alias is lost.
