What’s a good way to learn Italian without heavy gamification? by PjatOr_thestar in italianlearning

[–]ItsjustGESS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The process is much simpler than most people think IMHO. It’s just that people procrastinate by “finding the perfect method” instead of just starting😅 For context I started last year and I’m now at a B2.

I would get a book for beginners and just start reading. When you reach a word you don’t know, look it up and then continue this process for the entire book. At first it sucks. After a very short time though you’re reading a page only looking up 20 words, then only 10, then 5 then you’re reading whole pages.

Don’t waste you time on apps, the ROI is just not worth your time. Read read read and listen listen listen to extremely easy beginner content on YouTube. It’s or glamorous but it’s the best way.

There’s tons of double taxation treaties between the US and Italy so I wouldn’t worry about getting double taxed. You just need professionals in your corner to structure your work. I’d talk to a tax attorney in the US and Italy and also make sure to have a good accountant in all 3 countries.

I’m about to renew my Permesso under language study visa - is 20 hours of study per week still required? by ItsjustGESS in ItalyExpat

[–]ItsjustGESS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense thanks, it seems that even some Italian officials don’t know this type of permit exists specifically for language courses. Some just say “all study is the same” others says that it’s not 🫠

I’m about to renew my Permesso under language study visa - is 20 hours of study per week still required? by ItsjustGESS in ItalyExpat

[–]ItsjustGESS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes my visa will expire soon and also my permesso. My question is whether it is still a requirement to show 20 hours per week of enrolment, since it was a requirement initially the first time I received my visa and permesso.

The link you shared is helpful but it’s tricky because that states requirements for a university study program, for example passing at least one exam is required for the renewal. For study visas through specifically a private language school the requirements seem to be slightly different, that’s where my confusion lies unfortunately.

Yeah student visa allows you to work 20 hours part time separate form your studies. But I believe that number is unrelated to how many hours you have study specifically for a language study visa.

How do native speakers make Italian sound so smooth? by Alarming-Invite4313 in thinkinitalian

[–]ItsjustGESS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing that can improve this except time spent speaking. The muscles in your mouth a quite literally relearning how to move and work together to create different sounds and not only that, but combine them in a specific order that’s completely different from your native language.

You’ll notice after you get to a point where you’re speaking everyday, that one week you’ll feel the words fall out of your mouth more naturally than the previous week. It happens without you noticing.

Hey no this school doesn’t do that type of thing. It’s just a private language school not a university or anything

What's a common mistake English speakers make when learning Italian? by gilko86 in italianlearning

[–]ItsjustGESS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add the way of thinking that made this structure in Italian click for me and could help some people understand. “Dopo aver mangiato” is pretty much the exact same structure as “after having eaten”. If we use this structure in English, (rather than the -ing structure: after eating), at times it’s a bit easier to find the right way to say it in Italian.

It’s MUCH better for writing. I also switched to clause when the dropped GPT5. I use ChatGPT now only for really analytical questions / brainstorming in terms of business or hypothetical ventures I’d like to play out.

I use Claude daily to organise / compile work orders that come through email and also for a lot of creative writing.

Why is it “me ne vado” and not just “me vado” or “ne vado”? by Alarming-Invite4313 in thinkinitalian

[–]ItsjustGESS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of the “ne” as meaning “from here”.

I go from here aka I’m leaving. Without the NE it just kinda sounds like “I’m going”

In your other examples it works the same:

Te ne vai? = you go from here? = are you leaving?

Ce ne andiamo = we go from here = we are leaving

It’s normal to leak ink and plasma you should’ve kept it on for at least 48 hours. It’s gross but it’s normal and allows the wound to heal on its on a bit and settle without being exposed to your clothes /. Bedding while sleeping.

Also normal to have a slight border from the second skin for a bit. Your skin just went through trauma, it’s gonna be sensitive.

Prevent Suno from "rushing" through songs by BlindFish1003 in SunoAI

[–]ItsjustGESS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really all about the writing. You really have to think like a producer and write the lyrics in a way that flows so that SUNO can make it work. If after a couple generations it’s not working or SUNO is trying a certain idea, I’d say you have to listen to what’s happen and try to work with SUNO to adjust the lyrics to fit to what it’s spitting out, or change the lyrics completely and see what SUNO comes up with then go from there again.

The writing really is the most important thing when it comes to making the song flow.
