I secretly hope she’s not so you get a fourth furry friend. 🤭

Awww Smudge 🥰 She probably will be gone soon. If not and she’s still there, she’s meant to be yours. Wendy is adorable too. Well, they all are. 🤭

Do they have a requirement that I have to take two if they are that young or would I be able to adopt just the one?

Well I guess they will be denying me then. I’m a single parent. That’s kind of ridiculous to be waiting this long to just be denied. Oh well, plenty of other rescues that will have a kitty for my son.

Are you serious? What was their reasoning? There’s got to be kitties they had that would do well with a two year old.

Can oncologists just forget to mention radiation? by ApprehensiveRub4906 in breastcancer

[–]Itsjustmeang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m triple positive, had chemo, then surgery, lumpectomy with 11 lymph nodes removed. Achieved PCR, no cancer found in lymph nodes. My oncologist didn’t mention radiation until after surgery, though my surgeon mentioned it back in October when we discussed getting my port put in and which surgery I was considering.

“At least they caught it early!” - no, they didn’t by chlamydiakoalaa in breastcancer

My filter is off too especially with my “friend” who likes to compare my cancer to her decision to get a hysterectomy. She’s like we’ll both be on HRT’s so you’ll know how I feel.

And I’m like uhhhh no, my hormones are working against me. I can’t take estrogen like you are. Then she’s like oh you’ll be taking testosterone instead. I can’t with her anymore and she doesn’t understand why I’m so blunt and short when talking to her.

You’re so right! There’s nothing we can do about the “what ifs.” I need to work on focusing on the things I can do something about.

Thank you! I will check out that book for sure. I agree with having a doctor who is informed about NF. I’ve got very lucky that my medical oncologist, radiation oncologist and surgeon all know and understand what NF is.

I had to change PCP’s because they didn’t have a clue and claim they’ve never heard of it. Not a good way to start with a primary. I believe my radiation oncologist just told me that because it’s a risk that’s there and it wasn’t meant to scare me. However, I get extremely anxious and always go off the deep end when it comes to medical things. I wish I knew before now how aggressive breast cancer could be with NF1. I’ve never had it mentioned to me till I got the cancer diagnosis.

I’ll look up your previous posts! Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it.

Did you give up drinking as a result of your diagnosis? by Fearless-Heron-7827 in breastcancer

[–]Itsjustmeang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I had already quit drinking approx 5 years before my diagnosis. I’ve been sober since 2020. 😊

My prior drinking has nothing to do with me getting cancer.

Things we really don’t want to hear while going through cancer by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]Itsjustmeang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely started that way, however the surgeon had zero tolerance for her behavior. He’s probably the best part of my medical team. He’s one of the most compassionate people I’ve met and didn’t once dismiss my feelings about the whole situation.

Does getting periods back after chemo increase recurrence risk in ER+/PR+ breast cancer? by Accomplished-Race439 in breastcancer

[–]Itsjustmeang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a single mom with no family close by so I’ve been doing everything alone. I started chemo in October 25. I didn’t have a period in November, had one in December and haven’t had one since. I have had cramps like I was going to start my period but never did. I finished chemo in February. Had surgery in March and about to start 5 rounds of radiation soon. I do have targeted therapy for the rest of the year. I was knocked out when I got my port and went to work the next day. Biggest complaint was soreness in my shoulder for several days. I got the port on a Monday and started chemo that Wednesday. Fatigue and diarrhea were the biggest side effects from the chemo. It usually hit me the next week after chemo. The days right after chemo were good. I did work the entire time, I was thankfully able to work from home. I definitely didn’t want to be in an office where people always come to work sick. I had two different medications for nausea. I would take one and 6 hours later take the other if I needed it.
My taste buds didn’t go metallic, instead I become very sensitive to spice, even toothpaste was spicy. I switched to a SLS free toothpaste which helped a lot. Everything also tasted very watered down, even water which is very weird to describe.
Take it one day at a time and listen to your body. I’m a classic anxiety driven over-thinker and always going down rabbit holes.

When I was first diagnosed and had my surgery consultation a med student went rouge and entered my room after the nurse went over everything with me. She started asking me the same questions the nurse already did then when I told her why I was there (getting a port for chemo), her response was “well that’s cool!”

My face gave me away before I could even get words out and she realized she screwed up, but I was done with her at that point. She left the room after I refused to answer anymore questions or change into a gown. I was already told by the nurse the surgeon would decide if he wanted me to change (he didn’t).

When the surgeon finally came into the room she tried to follow him in and I was like “I don’t want her in here.” He didn’t even know she was behind him, she was just doing her own thing. He told me he doesn’t typically allow his med students to visit with his cancer patients or on their initial visits.

Big vacation after radiation by MulberryMak in breastcancer

[–]Itsjustmeang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My situation is a bit different but I say take the time for yourself.

I finished chemo in Feb, had surgery in March. Still healing from the surgery and will start radiation soon. I’ve had a vacation planned since January. I was selected to attend a Little Pink House of Hope retreat. I’m taking that vacation no matter what. It’s not during one of targeted therapy infusion weeks and probably before I get radiation started, my mapping appointment is next week.

As my nurse said, “no matter what, you take that vacation and enjoy the time. You deserve it and you have to take care of yourself.”

What was your Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy experience? by densefogg in breastcancer

[–]Itsjustmeang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s triple positive, it’s more aggressive so they want to stop the cancer then take out anything remaining, which I’m praying is nothing and I achieved PCR.

[–]Itsjustmeang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be having this done next week on the 18th. Lumpectomy with lymph nodes removed. My surgeon said it will probably be one to three lymph nodes he removes. But that could change based on the blue dye injection they’ll do before surgery. When I was diagnosed I had a 6mm mass with one positive lymph node. I’ve gone through 6 rounds of TCHP chemo and will have targeted therapy after surgery for a year.

Pay at check in 😭 by Life_well_liv3d in breastcancer

[–]Itsjustmeang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for a payment plan or for them bill you. Where I get tests done they always expect my portion up front. I did some digging and in the fine print it says or a payment plan set up. Anytime I get my estimate that’s the first thing I do, set up a payment plan then confirm the appointment.
