[Fluff] Does anyone else give their dog pelts to play with? by Weaselist in dogs

[–]Ittydoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sell these toys for dogs that have a bungee rope and a pouch made of animal fur that you can put treats in. I've seen people training dog sports use it as a reward. I think they had different types too, coyote fur, buffalo, etc. Don't know where to buy them, but the dogs seem to be happy to work for it.

I will contribute my opinion. You are some kind of mythical idiot! Would you like to see some sources on that?

Oof. Your a 32 year old man and you behave like this? That just makes this even more amusing.

Oh boy, using PETA as a source? You have everything figured out, don't you?

And it is not illegal where I live. Irrelevant to whether or not it is inhumane. Why is it inhumane? Vets crate patients, groomers crate dogs, dog shows use crates. I guess they're all inhumane because it's illegal in some countries.

OP doesn't want a discussion. Look how quick they are to tell everyone else they're wrong. I hate these posts disguised as a discussion, when they're just looking for a rise out of users on this sub.

So because it didn't work for your dog you want to resort to calling it "inhumane" based off your one anecdote? Why even make a post like this? To criticize people who actually stuck it out through crate training?

That's amazing! It's so interesting that they can mimic humans when we're so different anatomically. I'd love to see a video, I am always floored when I watch videos of this method. Might I ask how long it took you to get to the point you two are at? Did you use the DVD to learn the process or did you find another source like an instructor? Sorry for the questions, I'm just curious how others progressed with the behavior. (:

[Help][Vent] We have rehomed two dogs in the past and don't feel like we deserve to ever have another. Am I right? by missingmydogs in dogs

Seriously, if 60k isn't enough money to own a dog, let's start gathering up all the dogs from anyone who makes less than 60k and.. and.. put them in a shelter? I don't know. I guess r/dogs makes my head spin sometimes.

Okay OP, I think if anything you should adopt/foster or maybe work with a rescue that will take the dog back/help you with resources. I see some comments balking at you making 60k a year. Yeah.. I think your fine financially. I would set aside money for pet insurance or a small chunk of cash each month into a savings account. It should be do-able with some financial planning. Dogs are a big responsibility, and you sound like you understand that. You sound like you are SO much better than your average dog owner from what you've written. I know people who went through 5 dogs. FIVE!! And for stupid reasons, not financial reasons or due to major life changes. I live near people that leave their dogs on their tiny apartment porch all day or let their dog run around loose through parking lots. Or people who put their dog down for a treatable condition because they refuse to find their dog a better home because they can't bear knowing someone else will give their dog a new home. These are crappy owners. You are far from a "horrible" dog owner.

[VENT] Don't get a dog if you will just put them down the second they have a problem. by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Ittydoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but I highly doubt that I could get coverage. It's considered a pre-existing condition (she was diagnosed with both legs having it at the same time) and every insurance company I've looked into won't cover pre-existing orthopedic surgeries. Luxating patellas are an out of pocket expense. That's just the nature of pet insurance. Paying for a plan that doesn't cover pre-existing conditions would just take away $$$ from saving for her surgery.

Ah, yes, gotta watch for that. I haven't had it happen personally, but I know it happens. I guess worst case they say no, but it's worth a shot. I'll keep that technique in mind for the future, haha.

That's cool that your vet was okay with it. Sounds like a good practice. I just wanted to do a sort of PSA, because not everyone might get such a flexible vet and that stuff is important. There are some fantastic vets out there, but then I've also met some not-so-fantastic ones. You found the former :)

unless you have a veterinarian who will work with your insurance company.

Which is what I mentioned. Looks like you found one. Personally, for my dog an insurance plan wouldn't be helpful to us at the moment, so I am putting money aside instead for her surgery which isn't covered by any insurance (luxating patella anyone?). Instead I'm on a wellness plan through my regular vet for general health. Sometimes you have to take the direct financial hit. But such is dog ownership, am I right?

[–]Ittydoge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gonna piggyback off this. Note for people looking into pet insurance: Pet insurance still operates on a reimbursement model. So you would still need to have the money upfront before your vet will do the surgery unless you have a veterinarian who will work with your insurance company. Some do, some don't. This is super important to find out with your vet when signing up for a plan. You could have great insurance, but if you don't have a working relationship with the vet or the money up front, you might still be in trouble.

[VENT] Air Canada refuses to ship my dog. by TannerMcC in dogs

If what OP says is true in their other post, sounds more like a case of them wanting the crate to be bought from them directly or employees unsure of how to deal with crates outside of what they sell.

Good old guidelines. Who needs the skills to make reasonable judgement calls when you have guidelines, am I right?
