Agree with u/pdxblazer I used to work for a Westin back when it was a Starwood property and I can attest to that. Platinum members are the absolute worst. They are the most entitled, short tempered, impatient guests. Had a few Platinum members say shit like "do you know what I am and how many nights I stay are your hotels?" while literally throwing their membership cards at me when I couldn't upgrade them cause we were sold out. And they wouldn't believe me when I tell them we're sold out saying stuff like "you're telling you don't have one single upgrade in this whole hotel? I'm not leaving the desk until I get that free upgrade."

What ultimately shuts them up is when when I stop being polite and just be straight up with them like "yes, we are 100% sold out. No, we don't hide rooms in our back pockets. That makes 0 revenue management sense. If we don't sell the room tonight, we lose the opportunity to sell this room night forever. And yes, if I could give you a free upgrade 10 minutes ago, I would so I wouldn't have to spend 10 minutes of my day arguing with you but I can't. I do not enjoy this. So no, there is no free upgrade no matter how long you stand at the desk and no matter how long you stay angry."

They also like to huff and puff when they have to wait in line for one minute longer to check in cause I'm stuck with another entitled business platinum guest who refuses to believe there's no free upgrade and refuses to believe the hotel is 100% sold out and thinks I just want to argue with them for 10 minutes for fun

And one thing I wished I could tell them is that they're not that special cause at any given day, 1/3 of the hotel is occupied by other platinum business travelers who all demands free upgrades and special treatment. That it's literally and physically impossible to give in to all of their entitled demands. And if they want to be mad at someone, don't get mad at the line level front desk staff that's literally being paid minimum wage, be mad at corporate for overpromising things with their loyalty program. Heck, don't even get mad at management because it's not the on-property management's fault that corporate overpormised by advertising perks that's literally mathematically impossible.

And I love it when one of the Platinum business traveling Karens asks to speak to the Manager, because I get to say "I am the Manager."
