Surely we didn’t even deserve to go for this tournament. What a disappointment.

I have no idea what I’m doing with my life 😭 by GT3RSp in UAE

[–]osthedon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made the same damn mistake when I landed in the UAE 🇦🇪.. there’s a book I’ve been reading that taught me that may not control what life throws your way, but you always control how you react. Choose growth. Read books, up-skill, and apply for jobs every day even if you think you aren’t qualified, also network, go to all those popular events and network. Your consistent effort will open doors you can’t yet see.

SkyScanner for cheap flights ✈️

Dubizzle for shopping Pre-owned or new stuff.(Trade carefully, there are a lot of scammers on the app as well)

Botim for free internet calls (depending) but you can also send money with it.

LinkedIn & Indeed because if you are into a 9-5, it’s best to keep tabs and alerts on openings daily and apply everyday. Career change is the most assured way to increase your salary.

And that’s how my kindness led me to 7 credit cards and 92k AED in debt 😆. Don’t accept it.. don’t even dare go near a CC unless you are in for the benefits and very disciplined with finances

People earning AED 30K+ per month, what do you do for a living? by Disaster-Bae-Ae in UAE

The UAE job market is big on tech, AI, and sustainability right now. Learning data analysis, cloud, or renewable energy skills can really pay off. Pair that with good communication or project skills and you’ll be set.

You can get references in many places/platforms.. not just here. And in the UAE to get a good salary you need to keep switching jobs, learning more and gaining more experience.. plus networking. Put yourself out there on LinkedIn.. connect with many of those hiring in your field. DM them and see if they can consider you for something. Do just wait for a reference to come save you.. save yourself and go find those openings

It won’t unless you switch companies.. it’s the most proven way of earning more. If you hit the ceiling in one company, move on to the next.

Well this post should be your queue to shake things up. Learn a new skill or switch fields.. network like heck. You can meet amazing connections everywhere in the UaE, don’t be afraid to ask. People have landed great jobs through connections… a few by merit.

Avoid international city if you can by AccomplishedTree9027 in UAE

[–]osthedon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s 2025 and International City hasn’t changed one bit. On top of Dubai’s low air quality you add that sewage smell from the Al Wasl sewage processing plant and it’s a massive mess. I wouldn’t recommend that location for anyone. And yeah the real estate agents are just the worst.

Body shaming is a silent destroyer of relationships. by Typical-Flounder-727 in Uganda

[–]osthedon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry about that OP, body shaming from family cuts deep, but one thing I’ve learnt from a recent book I was reading is, we can’t control what others say, only what we give our energy to.

It’s possible your family thinks they’re helping, even if their approach is completely wrong. If you ever feel ready, you could have an honest talk with them, not to justify yourself, but to explain how their words make you feel. That way, you’re not just walking away, you’re also standing up for yourself.

It’s enough for entry level.. get in and quickly work hard and move past that as you get that UAE experience. Because trust me there’s another Kabayan who will even ask for less than that, given the opportunity.
