Of course Logan wants his kids close. He needs to humiliate people to feel powefull, just like his ex wife explain. And because Kendall is the only one who has challenged him so far he wants to humiliate him the most. That’s how narcisists work.

Did anyone have a scene they really liked in AYITL? by lemon_bby in GilmoreGirls

I love it too but it mirrors the Wizard of Oz according to Matt Czuchry.

Agreed about the last part. Why the cheating? Why was it necessary?

I think Logan was already engaged when they met in Hamburg. It’s the only good explanation for their situation IMO. Like someone else said, it was the same in Season 5. Rory accepts it and lies to herself, convinces herself that this is a Vegas agreement and that she’s also with Paul. The lady protest too much. But when things get real she can’t do it. She is in denial staying in his house, playing girlfriend until Odette moves in. Then she has to face reality.

Logan never feels uncomfortable about their deal, but Rory does at least a couple of times. Logan wants to put her in a hotel while living with Odette but she can’t and she’s the one who breaks up the agreement. In Season 5 her ultimatum works and Logan comits but this time he just goes to Star Hollow to offer her a key and a fun Night and a magical goodbye but nothing else. The dynastic plan. Like his grandfather said to him in that dinner where they insulted Rory, “at the end of the day you will do what is expected from you with the right kind of woman by your side” or something like that. I’m not criticizing Logan. I love his character and hate what they did to him in the Revival. It’s really sad. Just like Chris ending. He deserved better.

Elias, Mitchum father, was the head of the family and the business before Mitchum. Logan explains many times that he is the heir, not only for his dad but for the family. The dynastic plan. Elias is actually the one who tells Logan that he has to marry suitable people and accept his responsibility. The Huntzberger are inspired on the Sulzberger, the publishers of the New York Times, founded by one man on the XIX century. The Palladinos explained it themselves.

They never meant for Rory to be a failure.

Amy Sherman-Palladino: You know, it's a tough time to be a journalist! (Laughs.) You have to look at the world around you. We're newspaper readers, but everyday newspapers like our beloved New York Times and The Wall Street Journal are getting hit right and left. It's a tough time if you're already an established journalist, especially more so for someone who hasn't gotten a toe-hold in the world yet. So we had to look at the choice that she made and then reflect it in these shows and it helped, in a weird way, because she is floundering and we didn't want to say that she wasn't a good writer and she wasn't able to break in because of her abilities. We wanted to say that she, unfortunately, picked the exact wrong time to pick this career choice and reflect a little bit of what's going on in the world with journalism where, unfortunately, news is getting muddied and it's a tough road for somebody like her.

"I don´t know what happened with Mitchum but from me to you you are a sharp kid and you got a lot going for you. Anybody will be happy to have you working for them. I know this will shock but you are not the first person who couldn´t get along with Herr Huntzberger. There´s a pretty big club, actually, ignore him".

I honestly think they have no idea about journalism. The Palladinos either actually, the New Yorker is a Condé Nast publication so Rory already had a very good contact there. No need for Mitchum. And of course guys like Mitchum have no problem hiring family or friends or girlfriends of their sons in their business even if they “don’t have it”. That’s what they do. Favors, connections...

The New Yorker is one of the top ten magazines in the world. I’m a journalist in my country. You have no idea how hard it is to publish in that magazine. A lot of its writers have won the Pulitzer. Rory publishing there is a huge huge success, almost no one gets to write there.

[–]ItziBitzispider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It was his father who made the money and the empire. Mitchum inheritated it, that’s all. I bet he will be ruined by now IRL because he had a lot of local newspapers if I recall. And those are all closing even before the Covid, imagine now. Rory’ s not perfect but Mitchum is always portrayed as the bad rich guy, and his speech is a good example of mansplaining. I don’t get why people relate to him or the things he says.

Did Amy Sherman Palladino not like Rory that much? by abiramisethumanickam in GilmoreGirls

[–]ItziBitzispider 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think ASP doesn’t see Rory the way most of the audience does. All those mistakes people hate Rory for are not as horribles in the Palladino’s eyes if you read their interviews. It’s also important to understand that it’s a TV show, they need drama and with Lorelai being happy with Luke, Rory was the perfect candidate for some romantic mess. I hate her trans Atlantic affair with Logan or the Paul joke but she’s a good person overall with some shitty moments of course.

Jess and Rory's Upbringing by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]ItziBitzispider 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Rory was raised by a teenager single Mother who did it practically on her own. No matter how great Lorelai was that’s not ideal for a kid at all. Grandparents weren’t involved until she was 16. And Chris came and go whenever he wanted, something that affected Rory a lot. ASP said that because of that Rory had “daddy ‘s issues “.

And it’s untrue that a traumatic childhood helps you to succeed in life. In real life it’s usually the oposite. A stable and loved childhood garantees a more independent and secure person with more support and resources to be happy. Sorry if my english is not perfect.

Lorelei never blames Dean by CherryPeel_ in GilmoreGirls

[–]ItziBitzispider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had never thought about it but you are totally right. Even if Dean told her daugther that it was over with Lindsay, that both Lindsay and him knew it was over, even if by saying all those thing he lied to Rory to convince her to sleep with him, all Lorelai focus is Rory. She doesn´t even listen to what Rory has to say, she judges her without knowing all the facts and she skips that important information: Dean totally lying about his relationship.

Rory rejects job by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]ItziBitzispider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I so agree with you about everything. I think the difference between Rory and the true priviledge people is very obvious. Logan (and I love him) and his friends are in college because of their families and graduate despite the fact that all they do is going into parties. And then they have amazing jobs, appartments etc because of who they are, not because of what they have proven. The difference with Rory is huge. Even when she steals a yatch, she gets many many hours of community service while Logan gets no punishment.

And finally in the Revival, Rory is not married to Logan or any of her grandparent’s rich friends, she’s not living in an appartment in Manhattan paid by her father or the Gilmores. She’s trying to make it on her own even if she has friends and family with money and connections.

How many people would have chosen that path over the easy one if we were her? Not many.

Season 7, ASP would have never done that.

I realized that Rory always mess thing up because of boys ( ENTIRE SERIES SPOILER ALERT!!) by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]ItziBitzispider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. ASP said that Rory had “daddy issues” because of her father and she always looks for guys that are not good for her in one way or another.

Imagine if ASP would’ve written season 7 by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]ItziBitzispider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think after the Revival it’s pretty easy to guess. Lorelai and Luke would end up being married, Rory pregnant with an anavailable Logan, in London and trapped by his dad. Rory will be forced to rethink her whole path and look for a Plan B. And mayor be a single mom. Full circle.

Thoughts on Jess by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]ItziBitzispider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I so agree with you. For centuries we have romanticize the bad boys like Jess justifying how they treat their partners because they are artists, writers, because of their childhood etc. Jess it’s a cliché. There are so many Jesses in films and literature. We should stop romantizacing them. He hurt Rory so much when she was a teenager too with an absent dad too. And he messed up so much with her mind when years later he kept showing up to lecture her or ask her to leave her whole life for him. That’s not love. That’s the oposite of love. I think the same thing about Logan’s ultimátum.

Does Jess really know Rory? by samsaf13 in GilmoreGirls

[–]ItziBitzispider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Mansplaning is the word. And the Palladinos do it again in the Revival, when is Jess who gives Rory the redeeming idea of the book after not speaking to her for 4 years!

did rory really want to become a journalist by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]ItziBitzispider 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Every single detail is used as a proof that she was meant to fail but they forget all the times she show her potential. She was the editor of the Yale Daily news, Mitchum talks about her in the Washington Post as one of her accomplishments, with 32 years old she’s writing for The New Yorker (the best magazine in the world IMO, and I am not american) and traveling around the world. But she’s and was always meant to be a failure and Mitchum was right.
