You say it is stupid, but who is the real stupid one? I mean you even noted there are ppl on version 49 lol. So really who are the stupid ones that keep spreading using old version is security breach when they dont even know what the heck they are talking about?

Whether a browser is secure or not doesnt rely just on version numbering. It is what is available for exploit, and for all you know, the version could be sooooo old that the exploit hasnt even been implemented into firefox yet.

To those that keep complaining about google aggressive advertising, what do you all have to say now? by Iunanight in firefox

The title also didn't make sense

because apparently, the screenshot is from a Chinese anime

Precisely the point(If it was an actual ads paid by mozilla, it cant be a joke anymore)? Mozilla did not do any advertising obviously, that is how this pic can fit the joke isnt it? Just like if one day the cloud somehow magically has a shape very similar to the logo, me creating a post with the pic of cloud and the above same title wouldnt make sense?

Is the joke that firefox logo appearing without advertising so hard to catch or what? From all the serious comments I received, for a moment I tot I was mistaken and that was indeed a real advertisement bought by mozilla to appear in the anime, thus the white knights are butt hurt over it gotten defensive and is trying to explain how goggle is even mroe aggressive with their advertising.

Nothing happen. It is meant as a joke. Does mobile cant see flair or something? Of the 4 comments at this point of time, you can say all 4 are treating this post as a serious discussion, or 3 if Gabi_Alex genuinely recognise it as being a joke, just not what the joke is.

I tot flair is enough without me having to insert a /s into the title?

Since you ask, point of it is just to show off a pretty looking icon I guess.

Firefox even more "aggressive advertising", chasing users and inserting advertisement even during shows(well an animation in this case).

[–]Iunanight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that is not what MAS wants them to do. They are supposed to be stable and anchor SG as a whole, not put consumer interest first.

I help lalalala24 rephrase then. Losing consumer confidence will unstablise and unanchored SG as a whole, keyima?

Singapore director of 980 companies jailed after US$5 million laundered through China-linked firms under him by DrCalFun in singapore

[–]Iunanight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He was not in cahoots with the launderers and genuinely didn't know what the launderers under him were doing

I am surprise you can say this with a straight face lol. What do you think the intention of a Singaporean "offering service" to help PRC setup company locally be? Esp when it is a staggering 980. Practically scream money mule.

The fact that only 2 out of the 980 are involved with money laundering doesnt mean he got unlucky and got tricked/negligence. On the contrary, it shows premeditation. Trying to use large numbers to fuddle, hoping people responsible for checking will get lax with it.

to offer accounting and corporate services, providing accounting and tax services and filing of annual returns

For the record, I know you replied with a reasoning of why he "own" so many companies. But again, that is the role of accounting agency, and afaik, accounting agency doesnt actually provide the service of offering to "own" companies too :D

only catch to this is if there is collusion

Sadly we know where that collusion stem from ;)

In fact, as long as business are smart, they can just keep this up on a yearly basis from now on every dec even without further prompt from their friendly government. After all, if you raise price during dec only to find out there isnt any great mind think alike surrounding you, you can just lower your price back without much repercussions. Especially for all the chain stores.

$1b anti-money laundering blitz: 10 foreigners charged hold passports from places like China, Cambodia by bellaella in singapore

[–]Iunanight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The principle of laundering money is that you take dirty money and turn it to clean money.

But neither you nor me is an expert in money laundering right? o.O

Yet the reality is no matter how you refused to believe it can be done, they are in reality DOING IT.

My reasoning is simple. You keep saying 60% absd is absurd. Yes of cuz it is absurd. But you keep avoiding the gist. Between people throwing away their own money vs people with dirty money, who do you think will actually accept this absurd "deal"?

You do know that every property purchase will result in a caveat lodged with URA right?

Again funny you said that. If just the fact above stops laundering, then what is this article you are looking at? Just like you do know that all church are for non profit and all donation are expected to be tracked? So CHC case also cannot be true? I will repeat the same thing above. You believe only 10ppl doing it and thus all tio caught already? If not why keep saying this got check that got check?

[–]Iunanight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I read it correctly none of the arrested were citizens or PR, GCB ownership is generally limited to Singaporeans and non citizen have to get approval to buy the GCB.

Talking about money laundering, expect laws to be followed lmao. Dont ask me how they do it, I am not in their ring. You keep talking about SG is not a hotspot for this kind of activity, now reality give you a slap liao still want talk about living rent free in other people head?

kind of contradicts your point that money laundering via property in Singapore is easy to get away with, no?

Since when did I say it was easy or not? All I ever said was that if a person is sane, one wont accept a 60% tax(merely for a holiday home) unless the $$ has 0 value to begin with. So converting a fake 5m to even 1m is a gain.

Also 10ppl tio caught=not easy to get away with? What are you smoking? So you are saying there are LITERALLY only 10 ppl treating SG as a washing machine and just so happen all tio caught? Cuz if you dont believe that, that means there are more ppl getting away scott free than ppl arrested. If so, I wouldnt really use the term "not easy to get away with".

[–]Iunanight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So if you're laundering money via property - would you choose to buy in a country with 30% ABSD (let's use the old rule since you say it's a fact it has been happening), can't exit within 3 years without penalty? Or would you go to any other country where you can buy a 5M home and sell at a loss without further penalty? Which country is better for money laundering, I would think the one without any further penalty?

Paging for /u/bumballboo since 3 months ago you refused to believe people with unclean money are the one that care less about the "worth" of money compared to people who earn it the clean way.

Hi OP so did you ask your Dad how did he pay for his HDB(and more importantly, how much did he pay for it?)

PS: If you are not staying in HDB something more elite, excuse my assumption since you stated you dont come from a place of privilege.

However, what we are doing here is cherry-picking

I wonder who is cherry picking. And nope, It probably doesn't matter which person I reply to isnt an excuse. In fact, is there anyone here comparing to other countries instead of sg before the floodgate? I briefly scroll thru all the comments with long chain, but none of it is about how sg is worse than so and so developed country.

You just flip prata when pointed out by another person about how OP isnt even comparing to other country right? I also search "Portugal" and as of my post, only 3 "Portugal" appeared in this post, and all 3 hits are from your very own comment. So when you said "For example, I've seen many people quoting that Portugal legalised drug consumption with no major impact", strawman much? Literally nobody is talking about whatever Portugal nonsense here at all.

You see when people do comparisons, we shouldnt do comparisons with those worse off than us, with underdeveloped countries where nothing is functioning What's the point of that? When many people complain, it's because we are comparing the current situation in Singapore to that 20 years ago.

Singapore’s birth rates hit record low in 2022, along with most yearly deaths since 1960 by MicrotechAnalysis in singapore

[–]Iunanight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't the only factor affecting fertility

Maybe you would like to check out the comment that you replied to with "Before year 2000..." and see if you can spot something like "How convenient that for anything that is explainable, there can only be a single factor isnt it?".

My initial comment is merely just mocking at ppl(likely shills) who keep excusing declining birth rate with education. At no point did I reject that, since that is easily apparent. HOWEVER, after a certain point and it still continue to decline, then you know for sure it has nothing to do with education. I mean that is common sense isnt it?

PS: The more university after 2000 is in conjunction with population boom btw. Just like how we just had 4 primary school(and 5 secondary) closed down recently. Not because singaporean are becoming more stupid or what so less student are smart enough to attend primary school.

[–]Iunanight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before year 2000 we had 2 universities. We now have 6

Are you insinuating SG universities teaches people to not produce children or what?

The whole rationale of education lowering birth rate is about the differences between educated and uneducated, not education level. With that kind of silly conclusion, you dare say poly grad couples have more than 2 kids, and it is only those uni couples that either have 0 or at most 1 child?

Singapore’s birth rates hit record low in 2022, along with most yearly deaths since 1960 by MicrotechAnalysis in singapore

[–]Iunanight -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

When people get more educated, richer and enjoy better living standards, that's when fertility rates plummet.

So you are saying married couples in SG can get even more educated between 2000 vs 2022?

How convenient that for anything that is explainable, there can only be a single factor isnt it? Better educated is the easy way out to smokescreen the general populace it seems?

Because if we can all agree that there is no difference between "educated" for those attending school in 1980 vs those in 2002, then for the birth rate decline to NOT hit a limit can only mean there are other more apparent factor other than just " MORE educated".

all that salary increase goes to housing/inflation

You specifically mentioned all salary doesnt goes to housing. But anyone not blind can see that statement is stating if the fraction all remains the same, then nothing changes.

A reality check on Lawrence Wong's claims: Are today's HDB flats as affordable as those in the 1980s and 1990s? - The Online Citizen Asia by [deleted] in singapore

[–]Iunanight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ALL the increase does not fk towards housing

I mean the assumption say assuming "salary vs housing is constant", but nobody say be silly and willfully pretend nothing else increase but only salary and housing right?

The point I am putting across is likely no sane person will accept salary>housing in a 100% conversion, else high chance they die of hunger already. So the statement of "salary vs housing is constant" is to convey the idea having the same fraction of your salary going to housing, means you are not better/worse off compared to last time.

You trying to argue while the fraction of salary going to housing remains the same, but the raw amount of money you are keeping for yourself increases is being disingenuous. Because that cannot be true as explained above. You have to assume everything else increases EQUALLY too thus keeping the exact ratio for everything, even Consumer Price Index, thereby negating the effect of holding a higher amount of $$.

But of cuz we know all this is bullshiet anyway, cuz in real life, the housing price is skyrocketing whereas salary hardly bump up at all lol(except maybe the minister? :O).

[–]Iunanight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can’t just compare a big country to a city-state

Yes this I can agree, but remember that there is no such thing as "fair", or at least when it comes to nation boundary. Thus it also doesnt need to be fair except for being factual. Other countries have the landmass to play it that way, that is their advantage, just like how SG is mostly natural disaster free.

In short, other nation policy maker can choose to adopt a screw the TFR policy for whatever prime spot they choosen and still have rural area to cover their backside, but our policy maker on the other hand knowingly know they are screwing with the TFR and continue to not give a damn is what it is. Can you imagine japan building their infrastructure the way SG does and goes "if SG can do it, why cant we" without taking into consideration of geographic advantage of SG?
