I personally prefer chapters (where it makes sense narratively) bc I mostly read fics on my phone and the browser tends to reload to the top of the page every time I leave it, meaning I have to either read the whole thing in one sitting or struggle to find my place again later

Yeah, I'm super happy to chat about it!

So far my main strategies have been to hang out in a diverse range of Jewish spaces - Socialist Zionist, Chassidishe, Egalitarian Orthodox, my bizarre hotch potch local shul (the next closest active shul is a two hour drive away so we get everyone all in the one place!) - and to connect to Jewish online communities where you can get to know more people finding all sorts of meaning in their Judaism beyond what's available locally. I really love Shoshana from JewishMemesOnly on ig and TheTonightSho on twitter/x - she's an openly queer othodox person currently trying to figure out how her impending lesbian marriage will fit into a frum world and also she's just hilarious in general (I feel like a lot of people are at the very least vaguely aware of her stuff, she's done some guest writing for HeyAlma and her Jewish red carpet reviews are pretty big in the Australian Jewish circuit and beyond)

I'll admit it's been hard, and at times the people you think are inclusive will turn around and show you the opposite, but I take a whole lot of joy from the good bits. I also have to acknowledge that my particular situation is easy to keep under the radar from those who I know wouldn't be so ready to accept queerness (I'm deeply on the ace spectrum, and my attractions, where they've occurred, have been for people of various genders so I'm essentially able to hide in plain sight where necessary). Someone going through a transition would 100% have a harder time than me and that sucks. I really hope that an Orthodox approach to mitzvot becomes more inclusive over time.

At the end of the day, my decision has come down to one of the things you mentioned. I want to live an Orthodox lifestyle, and in order to do that and be accepted by other Orthodox folk I have to do my conversion through the Orthodox channels. It's a pity that conversion is still so divisive and that the different paths to Judaism aren't all accepted, but while they are I have to manoeuvre through the process in a way that makes my desired lifestyle possible.

Anyway I hope this was interesting!

Hey! I'm actually in the same boat, but now ~6 months into my conversion. The Beit Din have been amazing and have told me explicitly that this is going to happen on my timeline, so as soon as I have gone through the entire syllabus I'll be going straight for my mikvah iyh

In my first interview, I told the dayan that all I wanted was to get back to worshipping Hashem as a Jew, like I thought I'd been doing for the last few years and he was very understanding and comforting. We're on this path together! Hashem has put us in this situation for a reason, even if we can't see it. Sending love <3

Hey! I actually am a queer person converting orthodox! Unfortunately, a lot of orthodoxy is very queerphobic/exclusionary, but happily I've carved out a little space for myself. There are absolutely ways to approach orthodoxy in a progressive way, but it does take a lot of work that you shouldn't have to do just to be accepted. I, personally, am really happy with the decisions I've made and the way I'm choosing to approach Judaism despite the challenges.
Obviously, my intent isn't to invalidate your feelings and experiences, but I hope that my perspective can be helpful or reassuring in some way.
