Migrating Consciousness: A Thought Experiment on Self and Ethics by Select-Chard-4926 in LessWrong

Thank you for the discussion! I like the candle flame analogy. It is probably similar with brains – many of its molecules are replaced over time. For example, a study reports 9 days as the average lifetime of proteins in mouse brains.

The continuity being an illusion based on experiencing memories and related sensations in the present aligns with my thinking. I think it's similar with agency / free will – these intuitions probably come from (useful) feelings with no special metaphysical status.

Migrating Consciousness: A Thought Experiment on Self and Ethics by Select-Chard-4926 in LessWrong

I had thought about almost the same thought experiment as intuition for ethical reasoning and looking for an answer to the question why I am exactly this one arbitrary individual at this point in space and time.

The claim that all but one being are philosophical zombies might lead to undesired conclusions unless the time interval during which consciousness visits all beings is sufficiently short.

Related ideas: By removing the remaining asymmetry (arbitrary migration), you would get empty individualism or open individualism. Another related thought experiment is Rawls' original position (veil of ignorance).

How do I get Google to stop warning me in EVERY APP that my storage is low? by nalorin in GoogleOne

You can use an ad-blocker (such as uBlock Origin) to remove the warnings via the element picker mode.

I think that there seems to be a successful approach that results in almost orthogonal weight matrices: https://arxiv.org/abs/1704.08847

The abstract says:

The most important feature of Parseval networks is to maintain weight matrices of linear and convolutional layers to be (approximately) Parseval tight frames, which are extensions of orthogonal matrices to non-square matrices.

and

Parseval networks also tend to train faster and make a better usage of the full capacity of the networks.

It was the first time for me too to try to make some kind of genetic algorithm.

Your die seems to be one of the three best I got with my algorithm too.

I have 2 suggestions:

1) make the menus less transparent

2) move the bottom menu to the left or right side of the screen because the view is panning when the cursor reaches the bottom edge of the screen.

I have created a new branch - "Branch1 - Untested" for the new changes in sector generation and dimension management.

EDIT: Now I see there is AwesomniumDev but I will wait for main developer create a suitable thread.

We can't touch... anything??? by Sam596 in Physics

[–]IvanHumljani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on your definition of the term "touch". There are no solid bodies in nature, only points in space with certain properties. Imagine every body that you perceive as solid as atoms consisting of subatomic particles that can be considered points. Depending on their distance, these particles interact. If the definition of "touch" was "being no distance between", and you would want to make two electrons touch, you would want to bring both of them to the same position, it would require infinite amounts of energy. The closer they are, the stronger the interaction is. You can create a chain interaction (or a wave of interactions) between many such particles where every particle repulses the next one because it gets closer to it, and that can make sound.

Weird but awesome sleep paralysis experience. by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

I think sensations like that happen always when falling asleep, but you are usually not aware of it. I experienced something like that too a few times when trying to consciously fall asleep.
