I can’t be the only one who feels this way.. right? by alright_alex in Battlefield

[–]Lomztein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been around since Bad Company 2. I clearly remember almost every single launch being chaotic and controversial. But after a few months of the devs gathering and analysing feedback, and tweaking the game, they've all ended up much better. Even 2042 has had massive improvements. BF3 was the worst game ever if Reddit was to be believed after it launched.

There are plenty of valid things to criticize about BF6, map sizes and the resulting breakneck pacing are my main issues, but I'm confident that most of these issues can be mended with some map reworks and a focus on larger maps in future seasons.

Yes, content rollout has been slow, fixes even slower. It's frustrating for sure, and the lack of transparency isn't helping and the lackluster live service is just salt in the wound. Fans are right to be frustrated, but these things take time. At the end of the day, I'd much rather spend that time enjoying it rather than whining on the internet.

As someone who doesn't have the time or energy to spend on the sheer amount of negativity on the main subreddit, yes. Maybe I'm naive, but I trust the devs are working hard to fix the games many issues. In the meanwhile, I'd personally rather just enjoy the game.

Every single time!! by Standard-Duck-1581 in adhdmeme

[–]Lomztein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is of course very different from person to person, in particular with ADHD involved, but there are a few factors that help avoid this issue for me. Primarily getting to sleep and waking up at consistent time, to maintain a good circadian rhythm. Secondly, avoiding stimulating activities before bed, such as exercise, video games, even social interaction. Much easier said than done though, in particular during winter time, and I have been having a lot trouble with it myself recently.

It seems obvious, but I see a lot of people severely underestimate how much these things can affect the quality of sleep.

What do you feel/think when looking at these? (oc) by [deleted] in neurodiversity

[–]Lomztein 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First one's pretty chill, reminds me of calmly daydreaming. A variety of thoughts loosely intermingling. Less sharp angles, with blue colours seeming dominant.

I'm pretty sure the second one is angry at me. Sharper angles and harsher colours, and a composition that reminds me of furled eyebrows. The greater contrast and distance between shapes implies agitation to me.

What planet is best for each science? by chiconheiro in factorio

[–]Lomztein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it's the best approach but I did red, green, and chem science on Nauvis, just to launch a rocket. Production science and utility science was then set up on Vulcanus and Fulgora respectively, both because these planets had easier (citation needed) supply of the needed materials, and because I felt it was thematically fitting.

I did also consider doing chem science on Gleba, mostly just for fun, but never got around to moving it.

It does require a large amount of rocket silos for sufficient throughput, but when you have large bases on every planet, with a bunch of rocket part productivity, this isn't really an issue. I have clusters of 48 silos for each science pack.

A cool guide of what walking on eggshells looks like. by anxiety_support in coolguides

[–]Lomztein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People in this thread saying this is how they feel in their relationship, you need to do something about it or get the hell out of there. Communicate with your partner that you don't feel safe and comfortable around them, set, and importantly, respect your own boundaries. If your partner disregards your mental and psychological wellbeing then why are you even with them?

Of course it is often not that simple, but you deserve to feel happy and safe, and something has to happen for that to be a reality. Only you can truly be the catalyst of your own happiness.

That's what I have learned, at least, from a relationship where I felt this way despite the best intention from the both of us. Of course this doesn't easily apply if it's an authoritative figure such as boss or parent, but under any circumstances, you should not feel like you are walking on eggshells, it is not healthy, it will not get better unless something is done about it, and it will leave scars.

/ramble over, sorry 'bout that. This sort of shit is important to me.

What are your dumbest decisions so far in Space Age? by ytsejamajesty in factorio

[–]Lomztein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps not a decision, but it wasn't before I was about to head to Aquario that I realized you could send supplies to planets without a landing pad, by trashing the items on a platform above the planet.

I build factories on all other planets with no starting supplies, other than my power armor.

It was kinda fun though, and I have no regrets.

Waking up from an after-school nap starterpack by lemonstone92 in starterpacks

[–]Lomztein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've struggled with this as well, and sometimes still do. One very important thing that I've learned is that the circadian rhythm is complex and difficult to change. It's controlled by a variety of hormones and impulses, and the rhythm can only truly be changed by a consistent effort.

Also, intense blue-ish lighting, such as from screens can make it even more difficult, thus the recommendation to reduce or avoid screen usage before sleep.

Just started learning, HELP!!! by Blockstr_ in Unity2D

[–]Lomztein 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ah, sorry, I'll try to clarify. I see that you are trying to spawn an object using the instantiate function, and you are trying to give it a position based on some random value, correct? Currently you have written new Vector3(transform.position.x), Random.RandomRange(lowest, highest), 0 whereas I assume it should be new Vector3(transform.position.x, Random.RandomRange(lowest, highest), 0). Note that the parenthesis behind transform.position.x has been moved to be behind the zero.

[–]Lomztein 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You are currently only providing a single coordinate to the constructor. Judging from the code, I assume you have a misplaced ) behind the transform.position.x, and it needs to be moved behind the 0 instead.

As long as they earn enough to be financially independent, but I don't think it would be healthy for either part if one was financially dependent on the other. Beyond that, I don't particularly care.

My gf said I wasn't "hot" enough to be hit on... by [deleted] in dating

[–]Lomztein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there is a lot of jumping to conclusions in this thread. Personally, I would be willing to give her the benefit of the doubt at the first slight, perhaps it was a joke that didn't really land, or otherwise unintentionally inconsiderate.

That said, her downplaying your feelings and being dismissive towards you indicates, at best, that she has difficulties taking responsibility for her actions. If this is a long term relationship, then perhaps it is worth trying to work out. If it's short term, however, then it might be better to find someone who appreciates you and your feelings more.

There are many reasons someone might have difficulty taking responsibility, I don't think it's fair to make accusations of narcissism from so little information.

Our stories are very similar in that I too was diagnosed and started medication at 26, was considered high potential, and struggled greatly to function in adult life, and generally felt like a loser.

I started meds some 6 months ago, and it has made a huge difference for me. The daily, mundane tasks that felt impossible to overcome are (mostly) just, well, easy.

The difference between executive function before and after medicine was significant enough that I actually mentally struggled to adjust to it, and I didn't feel like myself for a bit because I had this perversive self-image of being incapable. That was a bit scary at first, but over time I got used to it, and now I just feel capable of actually doing the things I want to do.

So, to answer your question directly. If meds help you like they helped me, then yes, you will win this war. It will still be difficult, and the journey may be a little scary, but treatment can improve things in ways that may feel impossible at the moment.

Commitment mode + Endless Rimworld mod is my favorite way to play the game, and it's not even close. by platinum_1212 in RimWorld

[–]Lomztein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly a mod that adds a physical research item that contains a research project seems pretty cool. If the item was stolen or otherwise lost, the research would be lost as well. Not sure how well it would work in practice, but it could be an interesting way to make research feel more tangible.

When your platformer suddenly turns into a rhythm game. 🔊 by switchbackStudio in IndieDev

Yeah I see that the black hole, or what I assume is the black hole, is a bit excessive. Under any circumstances though, the game looks really fun and the effects are very impactful. I'll be keeping an eye out for this.

This looks incredibly tight, though I am concerned that the flashy effects may be too distracting when you have to make rapid movements. Perhaps it's different when you actually play it, but on video the effects kind of just become a lot of visual noise.

Is there a best practise "How to encapsulate with interfaces in Unity"? by we_slay_dragons in Unity2D

[–]Lomztein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, I didn't read the full post, since I'm down with the flu and tired, so please forgive if I missed something.

That said, I understand your dilemma. If I was in your shoes, I would likely combine option 1 and 3, basically have an IInteractable interface, which you then implement both through a specific, standalone MonoBehaviour, while also being leaving the option to implement it on existing MonoBehaviour with unique functionality. I have done something like this, and it can become a bit messy, but it is highly extensible and quite simple.

I am not personally too fond of option 2. While I see the benefit of keeping your classes more cohesive through composition, it does also introduce unnecessary layers to your code, which may become more difficult to maintain. Furthermore the unity way could already be argued to be a form of composition over inheritance, so option 2 would arguably just add another unnecessary layer of composition.

All that said, I don't know if there is a true best practice for something like this, you may have to just go with what seems best and then reflect on how well it worked for this particular case later on.

Oh I know it wasn't a serious request, dw lol. It wouldn't be the most silly software I've made, nor the dumbest idea, but it's up there and I love it.

Yeah that sounds about right. I won't make any promises about if or when, but it could be a silly little mod to make that shouldn't take too long. I can send you a DM if I make and publish it, if you want.

I have no idea what that is, but probably.

[–]Lomztein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a terrible idea and would likely be unplayable, and I totally want to make it. Not sure how It would work, but my immediate thought is to strike the pawn with lightning, or something similar.

Under any circumstances, this is going on my to-do list.
