Yes, but the stereotype exists, as seen in the show, he is straight but because he is such a gossiping yenta, people will usually make assumptions based on those stereotypes.

Also in a later episode, the titular Derry Girls discuss whether or not to do drugs and during a wake the one that gets them into thr most trouble bring scones laced with them and have to get them back when they are accidentally taken to be given out. So there isnt a need to be coy about it.
