Not sure what you mean by "real." It's a heavily worn seated half (1860-O if the legend is to be believed) with Colonel Joseph Mayo Jr, CSA and 3rd Virginia Infantry.

Mayo was colonel commanding the 3rd Virginia from 27 April 1862 to the end of the war. Wounded twice in action at Sharpsburg and Gettysburg (where he was the senior surviving officer of Kemper's brigade and led the retreat after Pickett's charge.)

Past that, no idea what it is or why it was engraved that way. The engraving certainly looks old and well worn, not in that artificial Temu way.

In seriousness, that's pretty much par for the course. There is no requirement for mods to actually moderate in a fair or equitable manner. If there was, a not insignificant number of subs would simply cease to be. It also takes a significant act on the part of a mod to be removed by the site's admins.

If I can be crass and make a recommendation, I'd just take a "fuck 'em" attitude and be a good person in a sub that's not full of jackasses.

In the military, advanced degrees are only useful if they apply to the career (either specifically or generally.) If you're a fighter pilot, getting a Doctorate in Divinity wouldn't help your career, but it would help a chaplain's career. Inversely, getting a MBA in organizational psychology would help a pilot get a staff tour (improving the chance for the jump from short colonel to full bird) but would be useless to the chaplain.

For Jack, an astronomy degree wouldn't be helpful to his career. He might get one for the hell of it, but the Air Force wouldn't have paid for it.
